One would think with UW being a historical Top 25 program and one that I assume probably has Top 25 collective money you should be able to grab starters from ACC and Big 12 programs and have a shot at all conference type players from the Mountain West etc, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Programs like Missouri and Tennessee also appear to locker UW for players like that.
It didn't really hit me till now but it's also been the quietest coaching carousel I can ever remember, which is probably keeping players in programs.
Don't remember where the other OL was from, but Oregon just took an OL from Texas State. Exposure, bad talent evaluation, and base dwelling neckbeards that run recruiting sites have dispersed real talent everywhere. The ACC just lost to UNLV without their starting QB and head coach.
Regarding the SEC, Clay Travis called all of this about DeBoer. In this era where you can just pump money up some parent's ass, Bama is middling at best and Tennessee is the top dog in down there in terms of resources. Probably even better than Georgia. Old Money Miss is better than Bama at this point.
I'm not saying we should just wave the white flag whenever they want a kid we want, but it's not the shameful thing it was back when they wanted Petersen and he told them to fuck off.
What is somewhat strange is that UW / Seattle has a boatload of uber-wealthy people but don't seem to be as crazy in their desire to buy a National Championship like Phil Knight or even want to donate $1-$5 million per year.
There's also a chance that UW does have a few of those people but in true Seattle-style, they don't want to be identified.
The Bay Area has more money then god himself and I'm sure plenty of them have connections to Cal and Stanford but don't give a shit. Same for LA. It's how it should be too. I'm a college football nut but spending money on it in that way is just confounding to me and everyone else being forced to have to react to it because some asswipes want to is fucked. At this point just sell the programs to owners like a pro sports league and put a salary cap which applies to all teams in a conference and cut the ones that don't make sense like Northwestern, Purdue, Vandy, etc as those are already being used like farm teams.
Sometimes giving some bags to guys like Shaq Thompson and Eric Dickerson types is fine or keeping a player like Penix or Rome who could go the NFL but can boost their stock with another year is tolerable but that's about it.
Would have been nice to have Smith but there are bigger needs (LB and WR, maybe TE). Esteen and the NAU transfer are the projected starters and then there's Holmes, Waters, and a few other guys who will back-up and then be ready to start in 2026 (putting the portal aside as a known unknown).

problem with the portal is who tf are we gonna get that was a starter? No one
Maybe the Idaho WR who crushed it last year. He is from Puyallup.
Also, the OT from Kansas State was a starter.

It seems to me that many Husky fans are wanting other Husky fans to donate to Montlake Futures instead of doing it themselves…

I don't like losing players to Missouri.
