All Right Now - Free
Too many riffs to do this exercise by decade. Moving forward will break it down by year.

Funk #49 - James Gang
Barracuda
Layla
Smoke on the Water
Sweet Home Alabama
Walk This Way
Don’t Fear the Reaper
La Grange
Money

All Right Now - Free
None of which were released in the year 1970. They'll all get their shot.
-
Funk #49 - James Gang
Oops, thought 70’s. Thank goodness you broke this down by year. Way too much good stuff that decade.

All Right Now - Free
I wanted to vote Ohio, All Right Now is just too college football marching bad iconic.
Bad Company really nailed that one.

I don’t know the difference between a solo and a riff and apparently even if I did it wouldn’t matter.

Use our Ai overlords, bud!
A guitar riff is a repeated sequence of notes or chords that is a key part of a song's structure and character:
- DefinitionA riff is a short, catchy, and memorable musical phrase that is repeated throughout a song. Riffs are often found in the introduction of a song and can be played by lead or rhythm guitarists.
- PurposeRiffs help to establish the identity of a song and give it its distinctive voice. They can be melodic lead lines, chord progressions, or even a single note played with a unique rhythm.
- PrevalenceRiffs are most common in rock, funk, jazz, and Latin music, but they can be found in almost any genre.
- ExamplesOne of the most famous guitar riffs is "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple, which was written by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore in 1972.

All Right Now - Free
Mark Knopfler intro to Money for Nothing is one of the greatest RIFFS of all time.
-
I missed the 1970 part and was confused why it wasn’t included. Fuck me, reading comprehension is harder than understanding guitar terminology.
-
The single was 71. The album 1970
-
All Right Now - Free
You got me, boss. And I even own the album. I will be putting it in 1971 with a Roger Maris type asterisk.
I'd still vote for Free though.

Funk #49 - James Gang
Badfinger was really good for a short period, on the way to a very tragic end…
-
American Woman - Guess Who
American Woman, as used in Austin Powers 2 (I believe) is a totally badass song with a killer riff. You all are crazy.
-
Roadhouse Blues - The Doors
I’m lazy and as I look through the list, I’m looking for which songs I like best which even then is difficult.
Roadhouse got my vote here because I heard the riff in my head.
-
All Right Now - Free
it’s a pretty tasty blues riff.
-
Iron Man - Black Sabbath
I agree the results are skewed. I strongly considered American Woman. If I were voting 100 times I'd have picked American Woman 40 of them.
-
All Right Now - Free
Tough bracket here. American Woman wins a lot of year but it's going up against one of the great Beavis type, iconic riffs of all time that started and entire genre.
