Sometimes I wonder

UW will have to spend more than $10 mil per year if they can find someone close to Dong James and want to keep them. Probably closer to $15 mil if we're talking about a few years from now. There's also no one I know of currently in the coaching world at any level that has enough connection to the program or city/state to do the thing of compromising career advancement to stick with the program.

Should have hired Urban Meyer.

Todd Turner, True ?!

Did Deboer ever counter to the initial “weak” offer? If he did, I never saw or heard one.
-
I don't believe so and $9 million would have put him in the top 10 of salaries of all college coach salaries.

First off….. I don’t believe Grubb ever interviewed the year before for the offensive coordinator job. It was 100% a fact finding mission or DeBoer was interviewed then
UW had zero shot at ever retaining DeBoer
that’s my conspiracy theory and I will die on that hill. Same with the Jojo Mathis injury.

It’s been while, but in my experience with negotiations, two things: the opening number, and the final number. Kinda hard to negotiate without a counter offer…

I've long been with you that the Grubb Bama thing last year was at the very least a fact finding thing by Bama. Possibly to try and gauge a bit what percentage of the operation was DeBoer and what was Grubb.
I'll also always remember the sinking feeling I had when on Instagram after the first Oregon win it was Grubb doing like a personalized thank you to Husky nation. Felt like it was a start to trying to soften the blow/set up Grubb as the guy.
What is the Mathis thing again?

Saban has said after Rose Bowl loss to Michigan that he "thought they had a good chance to have a really special season this year" which for him is code for a legit chance to win a NC but when doing after game/season player meetings two things kept coming up. Players asking how much they could get to stay, and how much playing time they could be guaranteed. He looked at his wife and they both said wtf are we doing then.
That being said, Nick was interviewing for assistant coach positions 3 hours before he made announcement to retire and no one inside the building was even remotely aware that was coming.
With that background, that doesn't sound like Sexton would have known anything in the fall to slip Kalen a note in class about not signing b/c the Bama job is going to be open but who knows.

These are all good poonts but what I’d really like to know…
Was there a second spitter?🤔🤔
