Because we weren't talking to anybody all year even though the staff openly said they didn't like the current room and DJ was never coming back.
-
Also to be fair, and I didn't read this until recently, but apparently if DeBoer stayed there was a really good chance that Cam Ward was coming here instead.
-
That would have sucked
Dodged a bullet lol

wasn’t Roger’s signed on well before the natty though? Was it already known DeBoer was gone? I don’t think it’s a guarantee DeBoer was bringing in Drek at RB but I don’t think he was bringing in someone of Coleman’s level and I will forever circle the drain pointing out he fucked up by only bringing in a guy with a fucked up foot and counting on Cam Davis who is just a guy when he had a potential natty run and an elite OL to sell. I do assume part of his problem is he needs a RB to pass block a lot and elite guys don’t want that. Could be a problem at Bama.

lets not rewrite history regarding Deboers recruiting… by the time he left, high school recruiting was largely done and his efforts were clearly underwhelming. The Portal period was almost done as well and he had largely struck out even when it was obvious that the team had a lot of good positions to fill for instant playing time for big time players.
From a recruiting standpoint the dawgs clearly dodged a bullet when Debo left ~ it seemed obvious to all that the 2024 team was going to have a lot of holes with no apparent momentum in recruiting which concerned all of us at the time

From what I could tell his recruiting was certainly underwhelming. But let's not rewrite history by assuming that DeBoer was running the program into the ground.

You don't need a 247 allstar team but you do need some playmakers and meat. Saban wasn't talking to the local 2 stars. The VAST majority of the board and extended other fans had massive trepidation towards his player acquisition skills

DeBoer's recruiting so bad while having a historical win streak and an exciting offense at a program where every coach other than Gilby/Ty/Jimmy has recruited well that I have to assume he knew he was going somewhere after 2023. I never understood how he couldn't do better at recruiting at least offensive players. He also seemed to not be interested in local players that much and we have been before by coaches not doing that then when must have players develop in the state were behind because animosity has developed locally in the community.
One of my biggest worries between Fisch and Deboer is Fisch plays the game of recruiting 4* guys everyone knows aren't that great but make a splash in the ratings and with fans while DB just ignored that and took guys he trusted more who were rated lower. I would say the same for using money, time, and resources on bringing in highly rated guys for visits and stuff who are never actually gonna sign.
-
Your implication was that DeBoer was running every part of the program well and that is the true revision of history
