I don't listen to Jones. But calling an event fake or a hoax is a general statement and people still get to believe what they want. Like people that say God or Jesus don't/didn't exist. From the criminal process, sure. But you can still be sued for defamation. Jones isn't going to jail.

Due process requires that a damage award bear a reasonable connection with the actual damage. In this case it doesn't. I agree that there was intentional defamation. A substantial award was warranted but not this.
