I realize that 99% of you won't care about this, but for those of you that love jazz like I do, this podcast by Dr. Gordon Vernick (prof from Georgia State University) is outstanding. Gives you a real education on various figures of jazz history and provides many samples. My own collection of jazz songs has been enriched by many tunes I've heard from this podcast and subsequently purchased on Amazon.

  • My mom's former home on Cherry St in the CD has a rich history of Seattle/NO's jazz from way back in the day.
  • So my moms house on Cherry near GHS used to have some serious jam sessions because the entertainers couldn't stay in the hotels back then and since her house had 4 stories (even a basement) the past owners used to room the black entertains when they were in Seattle. Word is it was Jazz royalty but that's what I'm hearing. The living room had a large fireplace and the former house owners would feed them and the guys would jam. My mom told me the owner told her little Jimi as a teen would hang around the house when there were entertains in town.

I would bet Charlie Parker was there at some point. I know from a biography that Jimi Hendrix was deeply influenced by Parker.
