Update on the site

The site was moved the other day from the "Text" format to the "Rich2" format. None of us like the change.
I had/have the option of moving us back to the text format but it no longer supports tweet embeds, which is important to the site.
A few minutes ago, I switched us from "Rich2" to "Rich" format. I'm experimenting with it now. The key to embedding tweets is to click "Insert Media" and then paste the full link into it.

Hardcore Huskie poasters are not technologically prowess

Thanks Taft!

Nope
Mobile works better

There's no "You Sound Poor" format?
-
Change is hard for many.

The only real feedback I will give is that on a laptop or big monitor the media (tweets) are center-justified while the text is left justified.
I think pictures are still left-justified? Sigs seem to be.
-
The product manager/owner wasn't considering the use case of a 50+ quote chain of shitpoasts/shit tweets/shit images.
-
On desktop, clicking the "Insert" button when inserting media is next to impossible now. The fucking horizontal scrollbar is in the way. Gotta tab to it and hit enter. What would you say ya do here, Vanilla employees?
-
id be chinterested to see other vanilla sites and go shitpost over there.
did that on those shit yuku boards back in the day with the pit.
-
Did you try Rich3?
-
I mostly just hate that quoting Twitter embeds only shows a link and not the content being quoted.

Insert media?

Yes this bothers me as well
I do no understand why they changed things

From what I've seen, my options are to leave it as it is because it seems it's the best we can do with Vanilla.
Or, I can look for a new home. But Vanilla requires that you pay for the whole year on January 1st, so it might become a battle for me to get a refund. Vanilla got bought out by another company and for the most part I'm now dealing with new people that I don't know.
I did have a Plan B set up in the event that we ever lost our forum so then I could transfer our data to the new place. But I have found that they are no longer in business. So I'm rebuilding our Plan B.

Seems more optimized for mobile now, which I am sure they have stats on. The center-justified and the tweet quoting are the most annoying things, but speaking for myself it's not so bad to try to find another provider.

I hear Geocities is an inexpensive option

Hardy har har

It's definitely a mobile world. It's still decent on the phone. Not as good but tolerable. I use my phone at work anyway. Don't want to have to sandblast the company computer
-
The last I checked, about 72% of our posters predominantly use their mobile devices. 28% use desktop PC. I use PC about 80% of the time.
I just looked at fifteen other forums searching for something acceptable (to model) to what I want, but they all looked like crap.
I'll keep looking and I'll experiment on the site late tonight.

There are some annoying things, but my general sense is that at some point the board is going to be forced into the Rich format. It's inevitable. So, do you just adapt and get through it now, or do all the hard work to switch and then the new company forces the change in 6 months anyways.
-
Somebody made a post this morning saying its not a big deal to change to a new company. But I've been through it and it's a big deal and time-consuming. And it was traumatic to the posters. This was about ten years ago.

I was thinking angelfire would be an upgrade.

Plus, Pup wouldn't be able to log in again.

Ugh such a shame. Site was simple but elegant before. Now it's slightly trashy with some red lipstick.

Hey Derek,
This issue is with the devs right now, and it appears to be in our current sprint, which means it has a priority. We rarely do patch deploys on Fridays, so I would imagine we'll have a fix out some time next week.
Thank you for your patience!

We should do a pledge drive to collect cash for a custom site build.
if 100 people donated $100 we’d get something pretty sweet and have them custom code everything to exactly how everyone wanted it.
pipe dreams, I know.

Yeah, I'm sure it's a total pain in the butt.
