I think it's hard to draw too many conclusions in this first season given the roster genocide that took place after DeBoer left. I think Fisch did OK in the portal given the situation. I would think a reasonable expectation for his class ranking would be in the 30-40 range nationally and that should move higher once we have some success on the field. We're currently sitting at #56 with only one 4 star guy signed. I don't know shit about our NIL program but I gotta think we have enough cash to reel in at least a few solid 4 star players.
I think there is enough talent on the roster to be successful but it's going to take some incredible coaching and luck on the injury front. Starting offensive line should be serviceable but there's no depth behind the starters. Will Rogers, the wide receivers/TEs and running backs look slightly above average for the Big 10. If we stay healthy and get good QB play we could surprise some people on offense. Any injuries at basically any position and we're probably fucked… choose your own adventure.
The defense has more depth but is just as inexperienced as the offense. Sebastian Valdez, Bryce Butler and Jayvon Parker all look the part and move well for their size on the defensive line. Durfee, Tunuufi, and Jacob Lane are all good players at the edge and Bruener + Tuputala are solid at middle linebacker. Decent depth and quality in the secondary as well but pretty much everywhere on the defense is short on in-game experience.There are 7 sure-as-shit wins on our schedule next year:

2024 and 2025 will be "rebuilding" years for the program as much as that sucks to hear. I don't think Fisch will have his roster really in place until 2026 but you could make the argument that, with the transfer portal, 2 years is too long to wait to "have your guys in there."I don't know how much of Fisch's success at AZ was him vs Fifita turning out the be one of the best young QBs in the country. This roster over-achieving next year would make me feel much better about the Fisch hire. For the record, I think he's a good coach and I like the staff he put together.

Football is about winning. Maybe wait and see if Fisch can win any football games in 2024 before worrying about how many stars some kid has that won’t be relevant to actually winning football games for years anyway.

@dirtysouwfdawg I think this is approximately right but I would ascribe different reasons as to why we're in the state that we're in than you would. I don't think I've seen anything yet that makes me think Fisch is "missing" on guys but he's also not knocking it out of the park either. This class so far feels solid but lacks instant-impact players like you're saying.
I'm waiting for a player or two that we sign that tells me "we outbid everyone to get him" and gives me faith in our NIL program. If our NIL program is has it's shit together then we'll sign some players that will make an impact in year 1-2 on campus.
7-8 wins this season tells me Fisch is competent. Above 8 gets me pretty excited given the state of the roster when he took over. -
