It is a position they are able to absorb a big injury at. 2 guys just at good as him and depth behind.

Tuli's injury has been the bigger loss for this team by a margin

It's amazing they've been able to absorb it, I just can't help but imagine what it would be like if they didn't have to. Agree on Tuli but it sounds like it's a thing with him where it might actually just be a long lingering injury he will always have and they're trying to best utilize him. I'd also trade watching McMillan Polk and Odunze flying over a better run defense.
If I had to guess, Tuli had a Grade 2 ankle sprain and he tweaked it during the Oregon game. He was then on a limited snap count against USC due to conditioning so they saved him to the 2nd half so he was fresh. So I'd guess, he'll probably play 30-40 snaps vs. Utah before being a full go against the Beavs.

Stanback and Rahsaan shehee 97. Shehee was a killer.

Injury to Shehee paved the way for Dillon

To me it’s Laiatu Latu. He is the difference between Washington’s D being too 10 and the shit storm we see now

    Rapp? No

    Azeem and Mathis were big

    Stanback is my answer

I agree we are missing out this year even as we keep winning

Rapp was a joke. Though I think he could have made a big difference in that Rose Bowl.

Locker was terrible but what did that do in teh end? Just make sure they lost the Apple Cup?

I know you want to keep playing against Michigan State at that point but holy shit it hurts losing someone like that when the game was realistically over.
Had Locker not gotten hurt, they probably win 3-4 games. It would have made Sark's legendary 5-7 turnaround off of 0-12 not so legendary.
3 wins might have saved Willingham. (I'm kidding but also kind of serious). I remember Race joking on his podcast, "You can just see Emmert in his bunker going `C'mon Ty, just one win. All we need is one or two wins! You can do it'"

The 1997 UW defense called themselves the Purple Storm Defense. But I kind of like the Shit Storm Defense.

I think Wilson died of alcoholism though, on a dock, a forgotten man

It was a riches-to-rags sad story. Once upon a time, I toyed with the idea of writing a book about him.

Great topic by @WoolleyDoog. In the future maybe we can do a "Most Unfortunate Turnovers" or something else from the most unfortunate canon

Definitely second Stalin's Paul Arnold nomination. A couple not mentioned:

Cody Pickett's back in 2003. He was a shell of the guy he was in 2002.

Rashaan Shehee in 1997, if I remember right he was injured down the stretch and we really struggled without him.

    Travis Spring. RIP.

People will hate it but Asa Turner last year. We win either of those two games and the whole narrative for last year and this is different.

Puka's injuries were costly, especially if there's a chance he would have stayed here had he not gotten hurt.

HOW WAS NO ONE SAID DEONTAE COOPER? NOT A WET EYE IN THE FUCKING THREAD.

The real answer is Laiatu Latu. Wiff a bullet.

No one mentions Cooper and then the bully steps in and pushes everyone around. You stand up to a bully by beating him to the punch.

Seriously though, Cooper might be the best or worst depending on your perspective what could’ve been injury. I don’t think it was all recruiting/Doogman/Sark hype that he would’ve been good.

Oh I would have read that, to have another Boys in the Boat era piece on Husky athletics, especially to contrast their story.

A movie about the birth of Alabama football in the 26 Rose Bowl could probably be sold

Saban and CGI DJ (Not the Stalin one) doing the voiceover history of UW and Alabama would be riveting.
