@Swaye has it backwards. Opponents were the ones (see Tosh Lupoi at Cal) who would fake injuries to slow down Chip's no-huddle offense.ntxduck said:

Yeah, I thought it was Stanford and Cal faking injuries against Oregon, then it just kind of spread as a strategy against every team that wanted to run hurry-up. You started seeing it a lot more.
