I posted a comment a few days ago indicating I would not be against the temporary decriminalization of small amounts of harder drugs like heroin in order to see if we get the kind of results that Portugal has. I'm against outright legalization for various reasons.

I'm against illegal immigration at the southern border. I also think we should reduce legal immigration. I'm not interested in seeing a United States with a billion people in my lifetime.

    politicalviolenceataglance.org/2012/08/30/explaining-high-murder-rates-in-latin-america-its-not-drugs/

According to the above article, high murder rates in Latin America are largely due to income inequality, easy access to guns and gang on gang violence. We are not responsible for the rise of gangs like M13 and the violence they create, nor should we be responsible for "financing an effort to rebuild the institutions (i.e., police, courts, prisons, etc.) and infrastructure (i.e., military, transportation, and education systems) in the countries of Central America," as suggested by one of the articles you posted. I'm sure we have had a negative impact on those countries with our appetite for drugs on the demand side. But they are responsible for allowing cartels and corruption to flourish within their borders in order to cash in on the supply side.

Rather than pursue a failed war on drugs in other countries, I repeat the call for us to build the Great Wall of America. It will help stem the flow of illegal immigrants and drugs from Latin American countries, as well as provide jobs for Americans. We can perhaps decriminalize small amounts of hard drugs as an experiment at the same time to see if that helps.

At least you're starting to see it my way.

You started with saying these positions were "completely retarded" and as you see the facts and data for the first time at least you are wiling to acknowledge that maybe you could change your mind. Your not a complete ideologue

You have a way to go, but you can get there if you give it some effort.

I've outlined most of them in other threads. You can go find them if you want to. I'm not going to do the legwork. The primary one is government taxation and the role government will play if hard drugs like heroin and methamphetamine are completely legalized (as opposed to possession of small amounts of those substances being decriminalized). The government should not be profiting from the sale of hard drugs.

You've got me to read a few articles I otherwise wouldn't have because that's required to debate you. I'll give you credit for that.

And by reading those you moved your position. Started to open your mind to other paradigms other than what has been pushed on you all your life. Keep reading.

One of the few Hallmark moments on these boards. Just so it doesn't go unsaid, I love both of you as people.

I propose that "in the discipline hole" become the official new HH addendum to all fortune cookie readings.

Somewhat Disagree. I think it's a great name for one of our boreds, but perhaps not that one. I'd make "The Discipline Hole" the new name for the "Forum Rules and Announcements" Bored.

Either that or the "Duck Half Brains" Bored.

Works for me. At this point, I'd support renaming the Grand Canyon to the discipline hole. Just want to see it out there.
