Breaking my Tug cherry to convo on this since I'm somewhat connected to this stuff. I wasn't quite good enough for one of the striking unions. One of my big gripes with this is the cute/clever signs/social media cute posting of it. If you're in a dire situation be fucking serious.

Writers are 100 million times fucked over in the industry. However, the bottom line of beating AI and shit will come down to the consumer. If people stop wasting money on horribly written shit then AI writing won't take off or will die. Streaming and residuals and shit is different too with TV. Network and cable sold advertising and people weren't fast forwarding ads etc. I assume that money was a lot bigger than it is now.

The big money was paid by the cable companies for content, most of which was never watched. As million cut cable (and satellite TV) it's getting replaced by much cheaper streaming services which mostly are losing billions of dollars except for Netflix as they tried for market share. Everyone is now cutting content. The Obamas and Kate and Harry were getting millions for content no one watched. They both have been cut. The demand for writers is dropping. Historic shows like CSI or NCIS had 22 episodes. Now it's 8 to 10 episodes and the viewership is totally split. Everyone once in a while you get a hit, but shows like Prime's LOTR prequel have been a woke disaster and Disney+ has lost billions and billions of viewers who refuse to put up with the woke.

When your shows are losing money, tough not to cut costs. When the writer's are told to write woke crap and write another bland spin-off then there will be even less money. Disney's woke Willow reboot was totally abandoned by Disney so they could write off all their capital costs and the show was taken of the network. Not a lot of streaming residual money to be make in that environment.

I think Netflix is finding trouble. It's why they cracked down on multiple people using the same account. Money in media never came from subs, it was always from corporate advertisers and they'll never be able to replicate that. The Obamas and Kate/Harry deals were some of the stupidest in the history of media acquisition and they also gave a lot of creators (many of whom were good) borderline blank checks to so self indulgent stuff which was a terrible investment.

With movies I've heard they're starting production on movies without scripts for comic book crap because they know people will still see it.

I basically fear everything will become TikToks which are shit.
The Obama deal was straight up money-laundering from people who he helped during his presidency.

The Harry and Markle thing was straight up stupid business as there was nothing those two could give back to benefit Netflix financially. Same with their Spotify contract, which was such a failure that Spotify major stakeholder Bill Simmons called them “fucking grifters” during his podcast.

Apps will shake out. The general lack of creativity is killing entertainment

Prime will win because of free shipping attached to it and they have movies and old series

There own stuff has gone downhill

Sports is the last chance for peecock or apple to make people buy them to watch

I hope and stand by it’s gonna take people to basically vote shit out by not seeing it or watching it. The paydays are too small for stuff now so people either have to do 10 things at once and rush stuff to get their next check and it shows. It seems like there are fewer and fewer truly popular shows and they're gonna have to rethink the process.

Amazon is positioned super well. They actually had better low budget stuff I thought and pivoted to bigger stuff that mostly sucked. Interesting to see where they go from here.

Any creative deals should really just go to writers and the occasional producers. Directors aren't even good at story and actors are worse. Giving creative deals to politicians is an all time low move.

Creative might be giving the public what they want. Who is on a hot streak? Tom Cruise with Maverick and another Mission Impossible. A trans James Bond might be "creative" but it's not what the core viewers want. A Hispanic White and Seven Magical Creatures is "creative" but not what the core viewers want. Two good action series I watched, Jack Reacher on Prime was a hit and had a 91% audience Rotten Tomatoes rating and so was Chris Pratt's Terminal List on Prime and had a 95% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes (40% Tomato Critics rating because woke critics hate Christians).

Disney wouldn't release Sound of Freedom for years, now $140 million domestic revenue and soon to be released outside the US. There are large target groups that want to be entertained and not preached to and have their beloved characters sex and race changed and where you can have strong male characters and not role playing cucks. Grooming might be a popular topic with the dazzler and mello, but when they are Disney's target audience we have seen how that worked out.

Getting the vibe that you’re not a fan Hollywood’s Off White and the Seven Diversity Hires Production?

It may have been @RaceBannon here who pointed out that Hollywood made the bold choice of casting a hot blonde as Barbie and a hot blonde as Ken in this summer’s biggest hit. How courageous.

A trans James Bond is actually the opposite of creative and that's one of their problems. Remaking movies and just casting different ethnicities is lazy and doesn't seem to work. Top Gun, Mission Impossible, and Reacher are all good because they're based on good source materials from writers not because they're focusing on casting diversity or sending a message or because they're based on some shitty comic book hero. The strong male lead is sticking around because it's undefeated and isn't going anywhere and I think they at least somewhat know that, and it doesn't have to be a white guy - Will Smith, The Rock, Denzel - very non-white people can lead movies well.

From my limited exposure to that world they ignore a lot of shit people actually want and seem to be okay with sinking themselves with the kind of drivel you're talking about instead of making what people actually want outside of the occasional Tom Cruise type thing. For example, the NFL and football is the most popular thing in America by about 500 miles, but if you try to sell anyone in Hollywood on anything scripted about it they stone face and cricket you.
