Was that just me, or was that targeting call complete bullshit?
I thought so. Both dudes running to the same spot. Pretty fucking harsh. No intent at all.
It even looked like he tried to lay off just before contact.
The appeal will be denied, he ducked his head into the guy launching his body at him, and then gave a little forearm shiver on the way down. Shit call, shit conference.

This must be sarcasm, because I didn’t see a launch.

Just lost in translation. The WR launched.
I felt awful for that kid. He gets his bell rung, goes out of the game, comes back in and gets his knee blown out.

That was hard to watch because the kid is a baller. He’s going to be highly sought after in the portal.

It's the part of the game I hate and it's why I didn't really want my kids to play it. Yes it can happen in any sport but of course it happens more often in football. My middle son had it happen to him in his Freshman year. It sucked. It's not like most high schools have excellent rehab facilities, the expense and hassle of doing the surgery and then the rehab was a pain in the ass and I wasn't even going thru it, he was. Kept him out of sports for a year and by the time he had recovered he no longer had any interest in playing any sports.

When I see a workable definition of what "launching his body at him" means, it will be the first time. Crown of helmet, defenseless player are fine, I guess. But "forcible contact" and "launching body" are fucking stupid as it relates to the game of football, particularly in the defensive backfield where the game is bang-bang in a big way. I've seen worse targeting calls, but it did seem like a stretch. The "launching" piece is straight up non-sense. Every play involves a defender launching his body. WTF? What else does a defender in the backfield ever do unless playing the ball?
The kid looked like he was pulling up and couldn't do it in time. It looked like the hit could have been much worse had he accelerated into the hit.
So is this a big deal for the defense? Who plays behind him?

We’re essentially playing flag football on routes over the middle/into the post.
He hit him with his shoulder/forearm and the H2H contact was incidental and a consequence of the offensive players momentum.
You can’t legislate the risk of injury out of the game, but we’re sure going to try in the most common sense-bereft way possible.
