Surplus/deficit are meaningless in the grand scheme of trade. They send more stuff to us because they make cheap shit and it provides a benefit to our economy. In a free market, there are gains and minuses, but they why the get the surplus is the problem. It hurts our? economy and the rest of the world when they use intellectual property theft to be able to sell cheap shit without making the R&D investments that other countries have to make. -

American supply chains were already headed to other cheaper, less developed markets, this has only sped the transition.
Their surplus is booming specifically bc Chinese Consumer Confidence has taken a nose dive according to most sources not called the People's Daily.
The quicker we can bring down that particular regime the better. The CCP has used the "Chinese Miracle" and "Stability" as justification for staying in power. The trade war is quickly eroding those claims. Presitator for life Xi is already being criticized for "losing America". A few years ago criticizing Xi was a fast track to a "corruption" charge. Now it's being done openly.
Fuck the CCP, the world will be a much better place for free trade and for everyone including the Chinese People if that particular authoritarian regime is ended and we see something closer to Taiwan's Republic of China become installed in mainland China.

I’m kind of a Trumpanzee on this issue. In worse times this could hurt the Economy here. But things are still humming and will be for awhile so this is the perfect time for the US to make a stand against China.
There’s a thirst for High dollar US consumer goods in China. Most, if not all of which, is locked out currently. We also need to be let in to their Financial markets as well.
