We still have a chance if the new uni's are dope and UW levels up on the field with Eason.

He's not choosing a school based on how they play in 2019. Recruiting lag theory says the on the field impressions have been made for 2020, the impact of the 2019 season will be on the 2021 signing class.

It's in the recruiters' hands now.
Each season has an impact, some more than others, but do you think that the biggest competition for him, which is Bama, will have any drop off in 2019?

Um no that's nonsense. The 2019 season will definitely be a factor. You don't think USC going 5-7 this season helped UW close Laiatu Latu? You think Latu would be going to UW if SC had gone 12-0?

UW going undefeated next season and getting back to the playoffs would absolutely help them potentially sign Smalls. Winning always matters for recruiting and the more games you win before it's time for a recruit to sign, the better.
It's not nonsense, @TierbsHsotBoobs was dialed in on this and his theory has proven itself to be true time and time again over the last decade plus since he first floated it.

There's a reason UW's best classes were 18 and 19, not 17, even though 16 was our best season.

These kids have basically made their minds up about these teams on the field. Sure something at the extreme margins could shift some things like is UW goes 15-0 or has a losing season but baring that, there's not going to be a huge difference between how our 2020 class looks if we win 8 or if we win 12. That on field difference will greatly impact the 2021 class though.
No, that's stupid. If that was the case, Latu would be going to SC. SC's season absolutely negatively affected their 2019 recruiting class. Latu is SC's equivalent of Smalls. He was their #1 overall target for the 2019 class. He grew up an SC fan. Like I said, if SC had gone undefeated, Latu would not be going to UW.

For guys who make their college decisions closer to Signing Day, which Smalls will, the season that they just witnessed by the teams they are considering is always a factor.

Right, it was an extreme season in which USC went from conference champs to a losing season, extreme enough that it put the coaches future in doubt.

UW isn't going to vary nearly that far from expectations/previous performance.

HRYK - if we are 12-0, we're in the playoff and losing to Clemson after nearly battling back from a 3 TD deficit.
If we are 12-0, we are bemoaning Bush not throwing to Hunter Bryant in the Pac 12 championship game vs a 6-6 Utah team, only for us to win after Fuller throws an INT on a trick play, but Bryant forces a fumble from the returner and Ahmed scores the td on the scoop to win 6-5 on account of a Peyton Henry blocked XP returned for 2 and a Yoooooot FG from 69 yards out.

THEN we're in the playoff and losing to Clemson after nearly battling back from a 3 TD deficit.
Fair point. Hangover is strong today.

Trade Browning with Eason this past season and UW likely goes 13-0. They can absolutely do it next season. Winning matters all the time. Smalls hasn't made up his mind and isn't even close to doing so. He'll make a late decision. An undefeated regular season and another playoff run for UW would definitely help their case and make it more likely they close him. Anybody who thinks otherwise is a fucking idiot.

Making room for a certain high school coach...?
Dennison is not a coach they wanted to lose.

They didn’t want to lose any of their defensive coaches, but if they did, they have a replacement ready to go.

Doubtful. Would be an obvious low down trick by them if they did so. Don't think it would jive well with his parents.

    God you fucks are stupid.

Do not count on a player to develop until he has. Has 2003-2014 not meant anything to you fucks?

yeah that's the point. it's not 2003-2014 anymore...

We're not relying on individuals to develop. that's FS... There is a number of talented RB's, and it is likely that one will develop into a very good player.
Not talented to the level UW needs. Who is going to develop into this "very good back"?

    Ahmed? No.
    McGrew? No.
    Pleasant? No.
    Newton? LOL

Roofs got a piece on Smalls. Lots of generic stuff including his thoughts about the rose bowl and the team matching up well with Ohio State besides a few dropped balls/missed plays. Gonna release his top ten soon, UW will be in there. Hopes to take visits in the spring and mentions he wants to go somewhere where he can win cause he hasn’t done much of that at Garfield. Best thing I’ve read in a while though is this bit from Roof though.

“One thing that he’s really thinking about right now, aside from the football aspect, is life after football. Smalls said he wants to have the business side of his career in tact and the local support of wherever he goes to school.”

    WAM!

What's that? He wants to go somewhere he can win? I'm sure how many wins UW has next season doesn't matter at all to him then right @HillsboroDuck

Hmmnn... I think anyone can write recruiting pieces nowadays.

"wants local support of wherever he goes..." really now?

As opposed to "I just wanna go to a school where I can make the NFL money and fuck everything else..."

Cortch Dennison was the OGBBK. Clearly a real mind for the game. Petersen might want to start connecting with past legends or certain relatives of legends to fill out the staff.
