this is another example

Time for a 8 team playoff at least and scrap everything else.

8 teams is as high as it should ever go... maybe we get that in 2025 or whenever the new contract comes up.
BTW, Baylor is still going to score 40 points, don't you think? -
Why would Baylor not want to be in the Fiesta Bowl?
You play to win the NYD Game. -
Someone on Equook suggested 16 team playoff lol.

not a huge fan of the divisions. Sort of like the SEC when they had LSU and Alabama that year the two best teams were in the same division. Reward the conference champs and fill out the rest of the 8 with the best teams who didn't win their conferencetopdawgnc said:

So like in the Alabama scenario a non-conference champion can win the natty?
I'm not a fan of a team who can't win their conference outright winning the natty.
If the two best teams are in the same division, THE best team will emerge from the conference.

They're not exactly parallels, more just curiosity here. -
Then keep it to college ... I'm sure there's a NFL bored for you to talk NFL if you'd like.whatshouldicareabout said:

Should just scrap conferences and bowls altogether, and do a 128 team tournament starting with 4 team groups and a round robin, with the group winners entering a knockout round. That way, we don't have to watch shitty teams play past September.

Your conference championship prerequisite sounds great, but it's never actually existed in cfb.

Alabama lost to LSU at home ... why should they get to play in the BCS National Championship?
I get its never existed before.
But here are some points:
The super conferences are coming. The B1G is moving everyone that direction.
Part of playoff push back is the travel length of schedule blah blah blah
With super conferences why not use those as the play off to get conference champions.
Just sayin. -
the fact that you don't recognize the 2011 BCS game speaks volumes.

Why stop at 8 or 16 teams for a football playoff? Per my count, there are now 35 bowl games inviting 70 schools to some fun and sun during the holiday season in late December - early November.
The 64 team NCAA basketball championship has to select a complimentary group of small unranked schools to be sacrificed as the lowest seeds in order to fill-in all their first round brackets, so the least football should do is a 32-team playoff and if the NCAA gets ready enough, they should just go ahead and schedule a 64-team event and call it Holiday Madness.
A six round 64-team could be easily morphed into a 70-team event by giving 6 conference champions a first round bye. The six round, 70-team football tournament could take only four weeks to crown a champion by doubling-up in the first two weeks with advancing teams playing two games the first week, two games the second week, a semifinal in the third week and the championship game in the fourth.
After a long regular season, college football teams will be able to handle two games a week with only three days of preparation. The student-study part of the college football experience might be totally screwed, but think of the TV money that could be made for all and the glory of having a true playoff. -

Meaningless for whom? You can't mean the student athletes and their fans who next year will be sitting home eagerly anticipating the 4-school play-off which will almost immediately become the Mother of meaninglessness, except for the 4 teams selected.dhdawg said:

a 64 team playoff means washington would've been a playoff team this year. Do u really want that?

Someone already thought of a 64-team playoff

Looks like we'd bow out in the 2nd round, just like in March Madness
