In my little corner of the whirled, youth football is down maybe 5-10%, soccer (blech) is steady, but baseball has been hammered. Imagine that, no one wants to stand still during a March downpour for 90 minutes. Youth lacrosse has grown hugely because it’s still relatively new here. Parents will probably nix that growth when they realize concussion risk is higher than football.sarktastic said:Faulty conclusions.

Baseball seems all but dead at least in the States yet Harper is going to get between 300 and 400 million dollarsGrundleStiltzkin said:

They don't get a lot per game but they play a shit ton of games and all of them are televised. And again, they don't get a ton of viewers but live sports are mostly DVR proof so the advertising dollars are better than other programming with comparable ratings.
But yeah, the beisbol players union is the shit. -
Also, ESPN is FS and going to bankrupt itself. The beisbol gravy train is probably going to expire.

3,000,000 fans at a 20$ average is 60,000,000 bucks right there plus concessions and boxes
The 81/162 games does seem to be the key -
and all that guaranteed programming. Pre game/ post game shows for 162 days.

Baseball does have a long term revenue problem. Consider Arod got 25mm per in 2002 for 10 years. Harper maybe 32mm per 16 years later? That's not much nominal growth for your "best" player.
Baseball doesn't have the global market like Basketball, so its salad days are behind. What it does have is strong regional viewership and attendance. Baseball nationally sucks, but in the teams' regional markets, it does well enough (see @RaceBannon comments on attendance)
All this being said, Jake Browning still sucks more than baseball -
Football is not dying. Oregon is.

I think fantasy baseball has a lot to do with the ratings being where they're at. I play fantasy baseball but I do not follow MLB at all, in terms of which teams are doing what.RaceBannon said:3,000,000 fans at a 20$ average is 60,000,000 bucks right there plus concessions and boxes
