Petersen's Presser

It's very similar to his comments on Peyton Henry after he gagged the game winning kick. It's almost like our top 5 coach doesn't understand that practice is different from live bullets.

Pete’s presser was a bunch of coach speak BS. He can’t seriously be that thick.
-
1) I guarantee that Pete falls in the practice as you play mindset ... not saying that I 100% agree with him as I do agree that pressure is real. That being said, if you know you can do the job and do it repeatedly in practice the odds of doing so when the lights go on increases substantially.
2) Pete’s comments on Browning after being asked if he thought he had improved between Jr and Sr year were pretty telling
3) There was a lot of reading between the lines in this presser -
And the odds of being able to do it when called on are substantially increased again if you have previously been exposed to pressure in lower leverage situations. Why did Haener sit until the last quarter against ND? Why didn't Haener get meaningful snaps against BYU? Why not some first half series against UCLA? No, you save him for a win or lose situation in his first meaningful appearance. I'm starting to wonder if there is shit going on in Petersen's personal life because he is just not at the races this year.

Too little cannabis and not often enough. That cough sounds throaty, like he's not inhaling deeply enough.whuggy said:is shit going on in Petersen's personal life because he is just not at the races this year.

For whatever reason....

Peterman looking to the loser choir on how to turn his coaching career around. Keep it up guys! Stay positive!

Live fire is a completely different theatre.

I’m getting just a little sick and tired of you armchair QB’s criticizing Coach Pete and This team.
It’s November and Washington is in control of its own destiny to WIN the Championship and represent the PAC-12 Conference in the Rose Bowl🌹
These kids try hard and they deserve your Respect. -

Even if this team was undefeated it is still in no position to compete with the best teams in the country. Petersen has had 5 years to get the program to a consistent conference contender. Let's see if he is capable of elevating it to elite.

Pressure is real and until you go through those live reps you're going to have to learn to do that ... that's generally true across all aspects of sports.CaptainPJ said:

That being said, you don't go to complete shit too often as what I was talking about was much more tied to general mechanics and whatnot.
Henry's miss made a lot of sense to me ... that's pressure coming from speeding up the process and a hook is what happens.
Haener just flat out doesn't see the field that well and forces balls over the middle ... that was something I've seen out of him in practices as well. -
Thanks for making my point, in a somewhat abridged manner.
He had no business in that game given the lack of actual game rep’s under his belt. Everyone knows this, and now Peterman joined the party.
He can throw the ball 10/10in a Dr. Pepper drill all day long and still not be ready in front of the rabid crowd of 250 at Cal.
We done here?

I don't think that Pete thinks that Browning has grown year over year ... but he also knows that he doesn't have any great directions to turn this year because QB recruiting has largely sucked in the Browning era ...LongDukDong said:Tequila give us your thoughts on point #3
I think he knows that the OL is full of a lot of youth and guys that are playing for the most part are largely JAGs ... it's why they are rotating guys so much because nobody is really getting the job done.
I think he knows that with no Gaskin they take a massive step back with the RB position because Ahmed has some growth that he needs to make in the offseason to be the #1 guy next year. Pleasant and McGrew are both good but inconsistent at this point week to week.
I think he knows that losing Hunter Bryant was a big deal to the passing game and why he was singled out from an injury standpoint. It slots everybody down a spot with Bryant in the mix. It's not that Sample and Otton haven't done a good job ... but Bryant is a difference maker in ways that they aren't.
I think he knows that the WR talent is a mix of talented guys that still have another step to make (Ty Jones and the ability to regularly separate and be the #1 type of WR that he will be next year) and guys that should be #3 guys (or deeper) in Fuller and Opera Singer. It's another case of poor recruiting condemning this offense.
The benching of Browning was really a last ditch attempt to reach and shock the offense. I don't think that the Pick 6 was ever in the imagination of what happened.
I think Pete knows that the offense is what it is at this point and with the exception of possibly getting Gaskin and Bryant back (with varying degrees of health to them), there's really not much that is going to change between now and the offseason.
The other thing he said that I think was really interesting was on the same lines of a discussion that Dennis and I were having Saturday tied to the defense. Dennis was 100% right in saying that it's hard to criticize the defense AT ALL after giving up 6 points in a game. I was on the side of saying that our defense is kind of known on how to attack us at this point and when it comes to creating turnovers or getting stops at the end of the game we tend to fail in those spots. Pete echoed both in the lack of turnovers (particularly given Cal's propensity for them) and inability to get stops at the end of the game.
I think Pete knows that this year didn't go anywhere near expectations and that there are some significant areas to address. Some will be covered simply by upgrading the talent level and steps have been taken previously to address that. But there are other areas where you get the impression there will be areas addressed this offseason. This isn't the first time he's talked about not getting turnovers on defense this year and it's obviously an issue despite the fact that UW's got one of the Top 3-5 secondaries in college football. -

The turnover stuff is quite simple. We don't get pressure and invite the qb to make the easy play which is usually a check down.Tequilla said:

Levi has flashed lately but nobody else is showing much ability to get up field. We are paying the price for not recruiting the edge. -
I saw a safety blitz and a corner blitz by UW where the freshman QB easily threw into the vacated zone just like you're supposed to
The effort on the blitzes was pathetic. Rote going through the motions which is the number one problem in all areas of this team
Sometimes you just have a shit attitude team and only the end of the season will solve it -
I feel like some members of this D are just going through the motions, thinking about what they are going to buy with that first NFL check

That rabid crowd of 250 was the Huskieie fan contingent in the south end visitors section. He did it right in front of his own fans.CaptainPJ said:Thanks for making my point, in a somewhat abridged manner.

Cal must have had at least twice that in the rest of the stadium -
And yet they gave up six points.BeerThirty said:I feel like some members of this D are just going through the motions, thinking about what they are going to buy with that first NFL check
The defense isn't as aggressive as I'd prefer either but they're still damn good.
Defense isn't the issue. -
It's a good defense but nothing special. Yeah they don't give up a lot of points but they also don't get off the field quickly to give the offense more opportunities. An god knows this offense needs as many opportunities as possible. Also my measure of an excellent defense is stepping up when the game matters. Couldn't get off the field at the end of the half against USC. Couldn't stop ASU with the game on the line at the end. Couldn't stop Cal to get the ball back. Bend and break reduces points against, what it doesn't do is optimize offensive opportunity.HillsboroDuck said:

I think the issue is the Ding Dong offense. It's relies too much on trickeration, weird formations, pre-snap movement, and not enough on Tuff Fysical football. There seems to be a lack of toughness and will on this team which ties into the offensive identity as a finesse team. Fuck finesse, lets get back to Washington football. My favorite game of the Pete Era was Pac 12 championship game. Browning couldn't lift his arm over his shoulder so we shoved it down ralffy's throat. It was beautiful. Dumb it down some...it's working for the Hwaks.HillsboroDuck said:

UW didn't
And doesn't this year -

UW didn't score enough

Lake is following suit of his leader, Peterman, and together they’ve managed to make it where our players are unmotivated. The one thing in life that was fun, sucked from them. Fun suckers. -
I for one respect the Comportment that Pete’s teams display on any given Saturday. It teaches lessons in life that will be useful long after their PE teacher careers are done.
