Maybe I’m on the fence with Pete

3 things need to happen this offseason to restore my faith:
- Gregory needs to go, special teams is a cluster fuck, same with LBs
- Offensive scheme and play calling needs to improve, if that means replacing Hamdan, so be it. Pete needs to step away from the offense
- Jimmy Lake can’t DC, we need Kwat back. Jimmy is either a DB coach, or head coach, sucks ass as a DC. I’d rather Jimmy take another gig than keep him as DC, this prevent defense has fucked us all year when we have zero wiggle room with our shit offense

In fairness we are #1 in scoring defense in the conference and #2 barely behind Utah in yards per play. The D has done its jerb.
-
Yeah, point #3 is debatable. D has kept us in every game. Special teams and offense are the problems.

The defense is at the bottom of our list of issues but it definitely looks a lot pussier than it did the last 2 years.YellowSnow said:In fairness we are #1 in scoring defense in the conference and #2 barely behind Utah in yards per play. The D has done its jerb.

Has the D cost us a game this year ? Nope. Giving up 27 to Oregon should have been good enough.bananasnblondes said:

Something has to change to be sure.
The losses to Auburn and Oregon are “reasonable,” but this game was an abject and utter failure by Pete.
Figure it out Pete. -
Yeah, the D issues have to do with personnel, which had to do with recruiting, which will take a few years to sort out.
Other than that, burn the program down. -
Pretty much this. The D is solid, but not spectacular, because of recruiting misses here and there in the front 7 the lastUW_Doog_Bot said:Yeah, the D issues have to do with personnel, which had to do with recruiting, which will take a few years to sort out.

Agree for the most part on D being good and doing it’s job. It’s not as fun to watch as an attacking defense, but it’s effective and reflects a good job of coaches putting the players in the best position possible to succeed within the personnel limitations available to Lake/Kwai. One small caveat is they couldn’t get the needed three and out at the end of the game last night. Would have been nice to at least force a punt with two minutes to go.

3 points in 52 minutes versus CAL.
Fucking CAL. -
It would have been nice, but they held Cal deep in their own territory two drives in a row before that. They did their job. At some point Pete, Hamdan and our fucking loser QB need to put on big boy pants and go win a fucking ball game.spuden said:Agree for the most part on D being good and doing it’s job. Peter purple helmets > big boy pants. Losing football games, like stats, is for losers.Swaye said:

Gregory should be on the hot seat ... I'm afraid that an uptick in recruiting combined with BBK's play this year saves him for another year.LongDukDong said:Yesterday’s loss was bad, real bad. Taking into account the epic fails each year (see ASU last year), I’m getting concerned. Something is rotten in the program.

I'm a jury is still out on Hamdan as there are a lot of offensive issues with this team that are deeper than play calling. That being said, there are some tendencies that he has that are fairly obvious and he needs to spend the offseason being a little self-aware of this and find ways to create breaks in them leading into next year.
The Lake can't DC argument is beyond FS ... there are some defensive issues that I've got (some people and some scheme) ... but the reality is that the performance is going to be largely the same whether Lake or Kwat was the DC this year -
Having a bye week in week 10 really sucks for a team with two new coordinators. You don’t get that self scout week early enough in the season to critique your work and actually make sweeping changes.Tequilla said:

That being said, with UW’s budget they should be able to overload on analysts and other support staff to do this. -

Lake as DC? I love how our D is playing, considering the glaring lack of depth in places. Time will fix what little is wrong on D.
Hamdan as OC? I’m instinctively slow to jump aboard the old “blame everything on the OC” trope. I’d like to see Hamdan’s offense with a decent QB at the controls before deciding anything.
Gregory as STC? Door ass out.
Petersen as HC? I’m fucking irate, especially after paying to fly down to the Bay to watch yet another punishing, self-inflicted road loss. But I still strongly value what we have in Pete, which is UW’s second best coach in my lifetime. There are things about his program I hate and will sharply criticize. But one thing I know for certain is that he hates losing as much as I do. Time and again, he has proved willing to re-examine, and change, what’s not working. He’ll need to do more of that, and I’m confident he will. -
Lake sucks. HTH
Cal adjusted on D. -

The defense gave up 6 points. Expecting a 3 and out whenever you feel like it is kind of unrealistic in today's game. Cal was just playing for first downs at the endRaceBannon said:In your heart you know I'm right
Pete compromising for the FG lost the game. -
I've watched Lake play the same shit defense since Stanford
Cal had the ball 26 of the first 40 minutes
Fucking pathetic
It's why they won and why their defense got us off the field
Fire his ass -
You guys aren't a good team, but a healthy Myles Gaskin would solve all of your problems in this awful conference.
-
If he hates losing so much maybe he should fucking STOP losing. It’s not enough so say he’s competitive and hates to lose. He needs to sack the fuck up and make all the changes necessary to ensure that UW levels up in every facet, including his own in-game head coaching. Enough of this bullshit. Go fucking prove it.TTJ said:

I bet Lake gets a HC job soon so it’s a moot point. Just need to fire Gregory and change up the offense
