What the doogs don't understand is that judging a QBs performance isn't about stacking up their good plays and bad plays and putting them on a scale and saying "well he made more good plays than bad plays so therefore he had a good game."
Instead, there are many "multiplying by zero" moments for a QB. In some theoretical formula for judging a QBs performance you could have a bunch of data points multiplied together to get some overall "score" for how they played. The problem is that anything times zero is ZERO!!!! Jake can play well in other areas of the game but if he gets a fucking zero for decision making in the clutch because he is fumbling or throwing pick 6s then you can't say he played well. You just can't.
TLDR and flagged for math. Fuck off. -
For all the shit heads out there who care about the "multiplying by zero" concept: https://fs.blog/2016/08/multiplicative-systems/
That's a great blog as well. -
At least Kyle Whittingham is consistent on the helmets are for pussies policy...

The standard IMO is Urban Meyer's run-based spread. He is basically running the wing T from the gun. Meyer doesn't ask QBs to make advanced pre and post snap reads and his throws are basically all set up by the run threat. Haskins is the first very good collegiate passer Meyer has had since probably Alex Smith. Leak wasn’t bad I guess. I’m not sure how much you have watched of them this year but Haskins can flat out throw the ball.Mad_Son said:Great to have sound mixing loud enough to hear again.
Pete must update his offense. He needs to learn to play from a position of dominance. I get that when you have inferior talent your only hope to beat the best is to out clever them but this isn't boise.
I'm not saying there isn't a place in the offense for trying to confuse your opponents and make them think so they are a step behind because there can be. Right now this offense is paralyzing us with no appreciable affect on our opponents however. There is no reason we can't have a run-based offense where we roll out formations that allow us to do multiple things in the run and passing game that forces our opponents to expect both without being overly complicated for us. Like we have tight ends. They are perfect for that if we just use them...
We're in better shape for the ol than I expected this year. I think we all saw this coming and didn't expect trey this year albeit for a different reason. We knew we'd be going and lack of recruiting would bite us this year but the guys we do have are performing better than I expected they would two years ago. I agree with the sentiment that this should be our low point for the foreseeable future.
Also fuck me but congrats @Tequilla for your haiku victory.
I think this year they are much more explosive because of their ability to throw the ball. They still pound your ass running the ball but now they can throw the ball anytime they want as well. They are very good and Meyer has always won despite the caliber of passing QB he’s had because his offense isn't retarded but rather brilliantly simplistic. -
Great pod fags.

The podcast was entertaining and insightful. Your critique of OL recruiting numbers is one of your most underrated observations about recruiting.
All that being said:
1. Dennis was too sober.
2. Tequilla saying the phrase "the reality is" needs to be on the TSIO bingo card. (Other squares on the bingo card: "I love Pete, but" and "I don't think Pete is a racist, but" and "I don't want to bash Jake Browning, but.")
3. It was hard to hear Dennis try to defend his beloved Cade Otton. The WTEs have not been a strength, but you dudes PROMISED us they would be. You promised.
4. "I heard from a little birdie that we should be very happy with the new uniforms." Coker, if you're wrong, I swear to St. Haden, I will...
5. Tequilla, please stop the Aaron Feld impression. Dennis and Coker sound like they are laughing along awkwardly just to be polite.
-
6. Your critiques of UW's multiple offense are fair.
Of course, the offense's complexity is not the cause of Jake Browning throwing ducks, shitting his pants, bailing from the pocket, and throwing to defensive linemen. The OL repeatedly blocking the wrong guy has nothing to do with the complicated motions, formations, and route changes. The offense's complexity isn't what's holding back Jordan Chin and Andre Baccellia.
The offense's problems stem at least in part from the recruiting misses at OL, WR, and QB, as you rightly pointed out. You're right there is a talent problem.
But I was ready to crap all over your broader argument about Pete's multiple offense. I mean, Dante Pettis and John Ross thrived and made Jake Browning into a Heisman contender!
Then I checked the stats. Fuck, Coker is right about Boise State's slide. Boise State's scoring offense went from 1st in the country in 2009, 2nd in 2010, and 5th in 2011, to 54th in 2012 and 22nd in 2013.
I'm hoping it's just a talent thing. -
I don't know what it means for us(?), but the 2012 & 2013 drop off coincided with loss of Kellen Moore and the hiring of Robert Prince as OC. My Boysee guys hated Prince. If remember right, Prince's mandate was to copy the Nevada offense, but without #MyKap. Maybe the takeaway is that Pete isn't good at selecting QBs and OCs.Squirt said:6. The reality is the offensive system didn't change. The offensive coordinators were caretakers, not guys with their own systems.
The same horrifying possibility is dawning on Seahawks fans. The problem wasn't Bevell. The problem isn't Schottenheimer. They're running the offense that Pete Carroll wants to run! -

Too bad we already lost to STDU at home and TSIO. This would've been a good pod otherwise. I realized after this pod and the HFPodcast, that "oh yeah, any team that brings pressure beats UW." That includes STDU, Stanford, and one more. I'm revising my earlier position and adding 2 more losses this year, due to a shitty QB without OL protection. 7-5 is looking quite probable right now. Teq & DDY: You say you want the actual facts: Well, there they are. (And I hope I'm way wrong).

Chose that handle after watching Cyler Miles as QB. If he wasn't a Turd of a QB, I don't know who was. The buffer is the doogy part, representing the irrational optimism I hold onto, despite no reason to feel it, given the annual letdowns of this team and program.UW_Doog_Bot said:

Coker and DDY's discussion about the shitty tailgating changes is almost enough for me to abandon this particular pseudonym and maybe replace it with "shit-eater" cause that's what being a supportive fan feels like today. -
7-5 is “possible” but unlikely
I’m a bit in LIPO mode as I think this weekend tells us a lot. That being said we’ve played our toughest road games of the year already and I dont see a lot of threats in the conference to score in the high 20s on our defense.
The reality is the offense should get better during the season ... LIPO -
Utah was the game. We'll be fine
