California lost an estimated 138 high-income individuals following passage of the Proposition 30 income tax increase championed by Gov. Jerry Brown (D) and approved by Golden State voters in 2012.
And I chuckle about the Maryland example. 3,000 millionaires in 08 and 2,000 in 09. Think the economy might have been a substantial number of those people? And you are taxed where your income is made....I don't see many people leaving jobs just because a 1% tax increase. Move to Nebraska. I'm sure you'll find your million dollar a year job there.

That line made me laugh too. 138, in six years, from a population of 35+ million? Even if your just counting the dotcom millionaires in the Bay Area, that number is background noise. People move for a lot of reasons. Did they interview those 138 high-income individuals and ask them specifically why they left? If they didn't, then arguing that they left because of Sacto's "attempts to soak the rich with punitive state income tax hikes" is complete and utter bullshit conjecture.
Not high-income individuals because they're retired, but the multi-millionaire couple across the street from us relocated to Jackson Hole full time a few years ago. Turns out they preferred the mountains to the ocean, and it had absolutely nothing to do with taxes. -
