I thought the long director cut was interesting, but if they had released that in 1979, the film would have plummeted. Still, you see more character development. Even so, it is still a long movie with the original, and never really lets you rest. When I saw it the first time, I was underage in an R rated movie, the old Town Theatre downtown. Some of the really deep stuff in the end of the movie I didn't understand then, but do now more.YellowSnow said:
The scene with the choppers looking for the missing board is only in the uncut, redux version which is like 4 hrs long.PurpleJ said:"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "fuck" on their airplanes because it's obscene!"
The message played from the choppers about the stolen surf board... "It was a good board. You know how hard it is to find a board you like." The gross misallocation of military resources made me laugh. -

I read Heart of Darkness for HS English, as a junior I think, and it didn't click with me at all. It was one of those reads where I had to force it and it was all mechanical...nothing really sticking and I remember pulling off only a shaky B or C on the test. The funny thing was that I had already seen the movie and, even after reading the book and taking the test, didn't realize it was the same story. The teacher didn't tell us until after. Guess they we're both a little over my head at that age.YellowSnow said:“The horror! The horror!” - Joseph Conrad

I wish I could poast a pic of me in my Col. Kilgore, black Stetson calvary hat, but so far as I can tell, @89ute and @AZDuck are the only guys here the poast personal pics and/or ones of family members. -
You don't judge the colonelYou're looking at the heads. Sometimes.... he goes too far. He's the first one to admit it.
