Everyone here arguing that recruiting is not insanely important is a fucking complete moron. Sure, recruiting rankings are not perfect, but in general they capture an important aspect to things.
I live in the south. I turn on radio leading up to the fucking season - guess what they are talking about ... ... RECRUITING!! Oh weird.
It's almost like people in the SEC realize that when you get great players you can be great.
I don't ever hear crap like 'oh, well we can't recruit at that level'. Fucking South Carolina is killing it this year in recruiting. They just got a 5-star BUCK that is 20 minutes from Clemson's campus. SOUTH. FUCKING. CAROLINA. Who completely fucking sucks.

I remember tailgating in Baton Rouge for the LSU game back in 2012. One of my buddies had a few colleagues who drove down from Memphis for the game so we posted up at their tailgate. First class. Food, drink, games the whole deal. It was awesome (Sark voice).
We obviously got to talking over beers and the one of the most distinct memories was the level of TBS knowledge these guys had. And they weren't even what you would consider "die hard" fans. They knew fucking EVERYTHING. The back stories, the coaching circles in Louisiana and East Texas; the type of shady shit that goes in SEC recruiting. All that fun stuff. It was eye opening because just these average LSU fans knew more than 98% of the Dawgman staff/subscribers.
The obvious reason why they followed it so closely is because its the lifeblood of college football and in the south college football is treated so much differently than it is on the west coast. Unless you've experience it you'll never understand. It's life or fucking death. Getting a 5 star is the difference between winning the conference and getting shitcanned in December. That experience is one of the man reasons why I believe the standards need to be held high in recruiting. IT FUCKING MATTERS. DON'T EVER LET ANYONE TELL YOU DIFFERENT. ONLY LOSERS THINK IT DOESN'T MATTER.
Another cool story about that tailgate. I noticed one of their friends had a custom #3 LSU jersey with the last name Beckham on the back. At the time the big players on LSU was Alfred Blue and Spencer Ware so I didn't pay any attention. Turns out it was Odell's parents. Pretty cool (Sark voice). -

There's a huge amount of context people ignore when they belittle recruiting rankings. It's acceptable to have weaker recruiting rankings because you lock down NW studs early like Memelard who will get ranked lower than deserved because he won't play the recruiting game. It's unacceptable to have lower recruiting rankings because Pete missed on the real targets and then resorted to Dick Newton.
Wisconsin fat boys lack FREE PUB, not talent. Stupid coaches with shitty undisciplined programs failing to capitalize on 5 star talent are not a sound indictment of the talent analysis. Talent alone dictates the ceiling of any program. Pete's recent class is his only one that comes close to nationally competitive and even then it's borderline. Yet this is considered by Doogs as more of a miracle than the expectation it needs to be. USC will only stay mediocre for so long. Must I remind you of what happened the last time that incompetent regime played UW? That game was won solely by recruiting. Once that program starts working like it should UW is hopelessly dead on the current trajectory.
Does Pete even want to compete for national titles from a level playing field? Doesn't look like it to me. I think he'd rather surround himself with instantly compatible OKG's and hope to get lucky. Unless fans raise expectations Pete will stay comfortable and happily accept having a second tier team of nice polite gentlemen built for life. Maybe that's what you losers want as well. -

Again go do the research look at the number of staff they have covering the entire West Coast vs just Florida or just Georgia. How on earth could the rankings not be biased? These sites don't get paid to get the rankings right They get paid to produce content for their subscribers who are mostly concentrated in the opposite corner of the country.
