I wouldn't expect an Asian to have The Deer Hunter on their list of faves.RoadDawg55 said:
Good movie, but too long and slow to be the best.Swaye said:So wait, you made a pole about war movies and didn't include The Deer Hunter?

Appropriately enough, this 2 may not have been the best, but it was the first.RaceBannon said:Apocalypse may not be the best but it was the first of the new way of making war movies

Flame away, do NOT like Top Gun.Swaye said:
If Maverick vs. Iceman isn't war, I don't know what is.YellowSnow said:
Not technically a war movie. Still great inspite of Tom Cruise. I got to go to a private air show at Miramar as a kid once. Way kewl.Swaye said:
Also, Top Gun needs a nod here.YellowSnow said:
Listen, fly-boy, I think parts of that film are great but fuck any movie that tries to shoot a hunting scene in Pennsyltucky with glaciers in the background. There haven't been glaciers in PA since the last ice age. HTH.Swaye said:
So you add an Honorable Mention section and still forget The Deer Hunter? I never realized tall people were dumb.YellowSnow said:Some notable omission and/or fuck ups:
Enemy at the Gates - Not the greatest script, but there just aren't enough good options about the Eastern Front where most of war happened.
Master and Commander - There are some corny parts, but there's no other film out there that rivals the sea battles between sailing ships.
Lawrence of Arabia - prolly should have made the cut here, but Peter O' Toole creeps me out much of the time.
Kelly's Heroes - Even though it's an action/comedy, this might be my favorite WWII of all tim.
Inglorious Bastards - I hate Tarantino sometimes, but Waltz plays the best Nazi officer ever on film.
Braveheart - Should have clarified this was about war movies from the 1754 to the present.
Spartacus - Slave revolts aren't really about war.
Hunt for Red October - Cold war thrillers are not war movies.
MASH - Race is right on this one. Terrific film.
Also, Master and Commander is the tits. HOLD FAST
I LOVE Master and Commander.

Now only douchey Persians fly F-14s.

Write-In OptionNot entirely a war movie but 13 Hours was solid.
Other recent war on terror movies weren’t as great. I fucking hated the Hurt Locker.
Zero Dark Thirty was ok.
Green Zone is kind of a bullshit story but realistic of what Baghdad was like in mid-03 -

Lone Survivor gets away from the truth at the end; just like 12 Strong, fucking Hollywood had to try making it dramatic than needed.dnc said:
