#6 Black SabbathSabbath is inarguably the much cooler band with kick ass music, but if people are considering importance to music I think you could make an argument for Elton John here.

#6 Black Sabbath
Absolutely. Record sales are no event close. 300 million for Elton vs 70 million for Sabbath.BleachedAnusDawg said:Sabbath is inarguably the much cooler band with kick ass music, but if people are considering importance to music I think you could make an argument for Elton John here.

Yeap, unquestionably Elton is the bigger influence on music but no fucking way are you getting me to vote for him over Black Sabbath.YellowSnow said:

#6 Black SabbathFucking whoa! Number of albums sold has shit to do with influence on music. A guy playing a piano and singing great songs was nothing new. Hell Liberace already did that AND sucked dick, so Elton was no trendsetter. I love me some super ghey Elton, but come on man, Black Sabbath invented metal. Jesus. Fuck. Imbeciles.
-
#6 Black SabbathI'm not saying Sabbath wasn't influential in their own right. Don't twist.

Let's be clear, I love metal, I love Sabbath, and I'm not that into what Elton was slinging but purely based on name recognition alone Elton does win. If you polled artists that came after him there's probably going to be a ton more that site Elton than site Sabbath even though there will be a very vocal minority that site Sabbath as a HUGE influence rather than one of many. Now, if you want to go into the fact that Sabbath inspired a lot of other bands that became huge in their own right and therefore wins those bonus points, then yeah you can make an argument for more influential. Whatever, I still voted for Sabbath.Swaye said:Fucking whoa! Number of albums sold has shit to do with influence on music. A guy playing a piano and singing great songs was nothing new. #6 Black SabbathI almost voted for Elton John. Then I realized I wanted to vote for Billy Joel

#6 Black SabbathI was drunk, high and fresh out of a mosh pit at Ozzfest and had bought a ticket to meet Tony Iommi. Last person in line I told him how I knew how to play every Sabbath song from the Ozzy years on guitar. He says "looks like you need another drink after your bloody shower." I could have died of alcohol poisoning but would have died happy

#11 Elton JohnVoted for Elton because he put out a ton of classics. With Metallica, AC/DC, Guns N Roses, etc. headed to the next round, need some more variety in the competition. Sabbath is great, but too similar to those other bands.

Fuck off lumping GnR in with any of the rest of these bands.oregonblitzkrieg said:Voted for Elton because he put out a ton of classics. #11 Elton JohnI've never understood Sabbath and I'm more into metal than anyone here save for maybe my Indian friend and one or two others. Granted a lot of that metal is pussy hair metal like Warrant.
I influential: yes, somewhat but I have never gotten it.
I liked their Ronnie James Dio stuff more than the 70s stuff. -

Children of the Grave, NIB, Paranoid, Iron Man, Snowblind, War Pigs, Supernaut, Sweet Leaf and The Wizard (shout out to @Dennis_DeYoung ). All that was laid down in like a 4 year stretch in the early 70's. Half those are all timers that everyone knows, and the other half are all timers that every metal fan knows.Fire_Marshall_Bill said:I've never understood Sabbath and I'm more into metal than anyone here save for maybe my Indian friend and one or two others. Pretty much ever song on their first three records is either good to classic. I'm not as much as a head banger as some here but these records were heavy in my college soundtrack. I saw them a Key in college on their first reunion tour with Ozzy back and it kicked major fucking ass. Way better than the Stones in the 90s at the Kingdome.Swaye said:

Sabbath is legend. You can go to some fucking shithole in Mogadishu and play Iron Man or War Pigs and even they have heard it. Doubt they've heard Candle in the Wind.YellowSnow said:
