Phil knew all along this was the right hire. In 2009 he told me Sark was actively pursuing the USC job and was waiting for Kiffin to get canned. Then he told me Nuss would just be a smokescreen and we would make a run at Mora who would be in his 2nd year at UCLA after Neu got fired but ultimately he wouldn't be able to leave what he had started.
He had inside word that Petersen has been in a try out with UW all along. -
