#1 NirvanaMuch like the Beatles, Nirvana, was some dudes at the right place in the right moment in history and they fucking capitalized. Yes, I get the point that SG had mor "talented" musicians, but the talent gap doesn't matter to me as much in these types of debates. Cobain had an ear for a good tune and was an incredible fucking songwriter. Cliché as they may be Nevermind and In Utero were crammed full of classic songs. Insecticide and Bleach had many great ones too. The live album was fucking brilliant. Shit ton of good songs >>>>>> superior "musicianship".

Saying Nirvana is overhyped is weird. It’s like saying the Beatles are overhyped. They were truly great for a moment.
Soundgarden was making heavy music because they thought it was kind of funny, stupid and fun. Later they basically started to veer stylistically into Nirv territory.
I’m saying this as a person who knows, likes and respects people in Soundgarden. Everyone in that band knows Nirvana is better and more culturally important.
