Your argument breaks down in the fields - so to speak - where we are talking about a labor market where it's more about warm bodies and less about skills and intellect.
In the STEM world your poont is significantly more meaningful. We are certainly being out-competed, and out classed. Thankfully, for the time being, the best of the best still find more opportunity in the greater 48.
In both cases employers are finding more value abroad. Be it paying less for available, comparable labor; finding higher-skilled talent; or both.
The American education system is still popping out assembly line drones when we need sharp, intelligent problem solvers to be nimble in an economy that continuously moves faster and faster.
