1. His amazing record

2001 Ohio State 7–5 5–3 3rd L Outback
2002 Ohio State 14–0 8–0 T–1st W Fiesta† 1 1
2003 Ohio State 11–2 6–2 T–2nd W Fiesta† 7 4
2004 Ohio State 8–4 4–4 T–5th W Alamo 19 20
2005 Ohio State 10–2 7–1 T–1st W Fiesta† 4 4
2006 Ohio State 12–1 8–0 1st L BCS NCG† 2 2
2007 Ohio State 11–2 7–1 1st L BCS NCG† 5 5
2008 Ohio State 10–3 7–1 T–1st L Fiesta† 9 9
2009 Ohio State 11–2 7–1 1st W Rose† 5 5
2010 Ohio State 12–1*[1] 7–1*[1] T–1st* W Sugar*† 5 5

2. The show cause is for 5 games. Washingtons first 5 games are dreck non-conference and 1 Pac 12 game. The NCAA would have the option to further sanction Washington for hiring Tressel but Emmert is not going to do that to his pool boy. Furthermore, the NCAA is becoming more lenient and in retrospect, Tressel was just protecting his players. A damn good case could be made that no further penalty is warranted.

3. He's tanned rested and ready. You really think 4-5 million doesn't catch his attention? He doesn't have to start over with a shitty roster.

Only problem is he's an Ohio guy and might just want to stay retired.

    Throw him everything possible.

Tress is Saban, Kelly, and Meyer good.

You'd talk over the North by year three. Pool boy won't even consider him because he lied to the NCAA so he could win another BCS bowl like a real fucking winner would!

I would love to land him, even though he's sort of old. I thought he couldn't coach until 2016 or some ridiculous time though.

I'm on board. Number one candidate. If Mora was a home run Tressel's a grand slam.

He can coach before then. He will be suspended his first 5 games, and the NCAA can exact further punishment against the University for hiring him. That's it.

Currently age 60. I googled and found some story about how much he's enjoying life as an 'instructor' at Akron. You think he wants his coaching career to end like this?

Too bad pool boy is still the AD.

    So....

--you give up Yr 1 because of sanctions (5 games susp + conf champ + bowl game)

--almost certain sanctions for hiring him

--face program crippling sanctions if he has ANY infractions

His record is fantastic but terrible for this situation IF the plan is to win NOW.

I would love Tressell, but we all know it will never happen.

    1. You don't give up a year if the first 5 games are near guaranteed wins.
    2. Disagree on the sanctions part.
    3. They wouldn't be crippling. I'm sure Pool Boy would dial up Emmeert before pulling the trigger.

    He can win now.

#3 refers to future violations. I am sure the NCAA would drop a major hammer on any program that hired him even if he had MINOR violations.

Wouldn't the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl count towards the 5 games? Nobody gives a shit about that game anyway.
