The early signing period

The haves - USC, Bama, etc are pretty much whining and complaining about it.

The social climbers like us? and Okie State embraced it and love it. Kirby Smart at Georgia killed it too.

Even if Petersen hated it he wouldn't say anything and would just do it but it does seem like it was put in place for guys like Pete.

Nice to have a CEO that can adapt and react and kill it regardless of the system

Blue blood schools hate it because they are use to filling up their rosters with as many tier 1 players as they can and then in the last couple weeks poach a bunch of the tier 2s that are committed to programs like Washington.

Look at USC this year they lost a bunch of guys that would have solidified probably another top 10/5 class because they don't want them to commit until they hear from the more attractive recruit.

I love it, all the shady fraudulent salesmen like Nansen are going to get fucked over hard by this.

The big boys are chasing their tails because they can't cherry pick from other schools last minute. This is a very good thing for Pete and UW.

To dive into this a little deeper, the trickle effect for UW and other 2nd tier powers is massive.

We keep 1-2 more guys that would late flip. We have more time to lay ground work for future studs that nets us maybe 1 more elite guy in the future class. The remaining guys caught in Limbo get 100% of the attention the final two months which steals another top guy.

This is all speculation, but over a 4-year cycle Washington could net an extra 8-12 elite recruits that would have otherwise gone to a Blueblood.

As we saw with Budda Baker, it only takes 1 to be that guy.

Getting these extra bodies closes the gap significantly between the haves (USC, Bama, tOSU) and the almosts (UW, Oklt, TCU,Wisc).

Of course you need a HC that can identify talent and is realistic with who he can get to truly benefit. If you're a second tier programwith a guy like Sark, Rick Neu who consistently outkicks his coverage you will still get fucked up.

Petersen's recruiting efficiency + our historical reality of playing 3rd to LA makes this rule almost Taylor made for UW.
