Question for TBS types

Also, why is Hampton a 3 star? Looks pretty good to me, but I'm an idiot with hips.

Bynum is a 4-star in the composite rankings. Mele I think was only a 4-star in scout's rankings, but scout is part of 247 now and he's a 3-star there as well as in the composite.
Hampton's tape wasn't as good last year as it is this year. Scout might have bumped him up to a 4-star, but they're dead. ESPN and Rivals don't give two fucks about Washington or Arizona.
247 are a little better, but they probably don't give a shit either unless he starts going to camps. Bynum went to all that UA shit so he got bumped up enough by all the services to get the 4th star. Similar to Ty Jones and Ariel Ngata who also barely made the cut after making the All-American team. They were 3-stars before that.
Also, stars don't matter. -
Gracias. Totally get the stars are worthless stuff, I am just always interested when kids we might sign are getting moved around. Totally never occurred to me that Scout getting bought out changes things. I have heard from TBSers for years that ESPN and Rivals are terrible out west, so I wonder what that means for "rankings," as it pertains to Pac-12 kids and UW specifically, going forward.NorwegianHusky said:Bynum is a 4-star in the composite rankings. Stars are a good indicator, just not a perfect indicator.
However, with the new 247 regime, stars on the West Coast are going to be fucked. Scout was the only site that gave a little bit of a fuck about the west and so now guys like Mele (who is clearly big time) are 3 stars. It's dum. -
So then when we get a 3.2 star average next year you have to grain of salt it because that may have been a 3.45 or whatever when people actually gave a fuck about west coast kids?Dennis_DeYoung said:Stars are a good indicator, just not a perfect indicator.

The stars are much more worthless now that 247 has combined with scout. For awhile, each player had 3 different rankings, 247, scout, and composite. Now they have two so we have guys that are both 3 stars and 4 stars. Also, scout was the only one that gave a shit about the west coast, and they are gone. We're left with Culp being ranked as a WR in Jordan Chin territory and Hampton as a low 3-star. Osborne is now ranked around where Chico was coming out of HS.

It's so bad. Jackson Sirmon got a 4th star from 247. I mean, I like him - but WTF. Over Dom Hampton? No.bananasnblondes said:The stars are much more worthless now that 247 has combined with scout. Oh yeah. Coker and Dennis could actually be the only people who GAF about west coast. Wait, whatever happened to Biggins and Huffman and all the Scout guys who cover west coast? Did they get jobs with 247?theknowledge said:

Did Draco Bynum pick up a star and Mele drop a star? Thought months ago it was being reported that Bynum was a 3, and Mele was a 4. Just wondering.

It looks like Biggman and Huffins have been retained, but they don't seem to be as influential in the rating of players as they did under scout.Swaye said:

It's actually a shame to see Scout get overrun by 247, their ratings were the only ones I thought were actually pretty good (Especially for West Coast kids). Hopefully they get their shit in order for the next class. Some of these rankings make no fucking sense at all, and not just for UW commits.

Honestly, who gives a shit about rankings. They are nice ... but the film and player development matters
