What's wrong with the defense?

I mean, they got bailed out by Browning and Vizcaino.

With Azeem gone Browning is now the emotional leader of the defense.

They had a couple of bad weeks. Twats track record says they will be fine and get back to normal.

Too white

A few lucky ass prayers, a few great catches, and also TSIO so they don't care
-
Well, we* better get it fixed before Game Marks comes to town

You dont even want to know what Leach is cooking up over the bye. Just what I'm hearing.doogie said:Well, we* better get it fixed before Game Marks comes to town

Stanford figured out we don't cover the inside slant with our bend-don't-break zone defense, and we didn't care enough to fix that for Utah.
Difference is Stanford would catch those passes and Utah receivers had a number of drops -

Murphy was clearly still hobbling and other other cb's are awful

There's always been a soft spot in our defense with TEs and bigger targets in the 10-15 yard range ... there was a breakup by BBK last night that was spectacular.
When you are short on DBs and playing guys out of their ideal position (i.e. Bryant on the outside inside of inside on the slot), you start to see a few more breakdowns. -
No edge pass rush and depleted secondary. Other coaches have finally figured it out.
-
DT/NG: We have 2 future NFL guys in Virta and Gains and a bunch of other interior DL that actually look pretty good but I think some of these guys are playing too heavy, we have no pass rush and little edge contain because we are overly focused on just playing two gap standup defense even on pass plays.
DE: Bowman and Bartlett actually both look decent as pass rushers, potato and the rest look like they are on a weight and speed program to plug the middle and replace Vea and Gains.
LB: Who the fuck cut off the supply of Rino Cum (tm)? Azeem looked like shit all season, Bieria looks weak and got run over all game last night, everyone is small, Mcintosh should have been moved to LB a season ago, Beavers is forgotten, and BBK is our best LB
CB: all either midgets, injured, or injured midgets
S: Rapp eyes dawg is the only good player, the other safeties hit like hard mother fuckers but are nothing more than high functioning retards in coverage.
The biggest worry moving forward has got to be LB, we look small, unathletic, and slow with very few young guys ready to come in and compete or improve next year. Every other position can be fixed with a little bit of better coaching. -
I'd like to see Joyner get a little bigger and play LB. I think biggest problem is the corners. Good thing is that WSU QBs throw picks and throw to a lot of midgets. What will happen in apple cup is they will catch some passes early and then get alligator arms as the game rolls on. Same thing happened to Utah.
-
No fa king way Joyner plays linebacker. Dude is 5’10” 180. You want him to grow 4 inches and gain 50 pounds in the offseason?DoogieMcDoogerson said:I'd like to see Joyner get a little bigger and play LB.

Murphy got worked last night. Rusty, did not look explosive like the beginning of the year.
Hope he shook off the rust.

DBs have been extremely bad the last 2 weeks.
The 3rd and long conversions have really killed us and that's the biggest difference between Stanford/Utah and the rest of the year. We were giving up 8 yard draw plays to Rutgers as well. We were just stopping them when we needed to. When you keep lettingbteams off the hook on 3rd and 8+, you're defense is going to look like shit. -
So much this, though to be fair Wellington flashed a bit to me last night. He might be a gamer.Houhusky said:

I will be so happy if Ngata, Beavers, Wellington, and Eifler surpass BBGAYSwaye said:

I get totally pissed when I see CB's give up inside leverage.
The slant is an easy throw for a Pac 12 QB. Fucking take that away and make
them throw the much harder fade. If they complete that then tip your hat.
I'm not sure why Jimmy Lake allows it. -
Forgot to add that I think while Joyner is a very mediocre
CB he could be one hell of an Earl Thomas free safety.
Fast and hard hitting. You take a lot of his hitting game
away from him at CB. -
Yep. He would be a better nickel or safety. He’s good though.whuggy said:Forgot to add that I think while Joyner is a very mediocre

We have a scheme. When our D linemen are doubled they do not attempt to break through on pass plays. they simply spy. I've mentioned this before. Tedford had Vita and Gaines doubled every play vs. Fresno because he knows this having worked at UW. I don't get it, I know they can't get to the QB all the time but to not try because the ball comes out quick seems silly. We usually rush 3 or 4 we need a few more blitzes to keep them honest and not using up 4 to block 2. Of course when singled both Gaines and Vea kick ass. -

You guys seriously need to chill the fuck out on the defense. They will be fine. The pass rush from the edge definately sucks. I watched Benning a bunch in the game and once he gets engaged with a linemen he grows a vagina.
The past 2 weeks has been tough. It doesn't erase the other 9 before that. We have owned WSU the past few years even when they were known for their high octane offense. I think they get back on track this week. They will be motivated for the apple cup, they had none for Utah (justifiably so their season ended right before their game started). -

It isn't complicated.
As others have noted, lack of edge rush is a real problem. The injury issue with the CBs is the other big problem.
A shitty offense doesn't help any either. -
CBs need to defend against the pass and not just run with the receiver and then try to tackle them after they catch it. Giving up way too many 3rd and long plays.
-
CB: all either midgets, injured, or injured midgets
this is correct.
