    That's fair, but Huntsville has never really fit in with the general culture of Alabama. That part of the state is the foothills of the Appalachian mountains and was one of the only places in the Confederacy to not support secession. That cultural divide persists to some extent even now. There's also a big difference between Knoxville and the rest of Tennessee, same reason. And yeah, lots of Yankees (and ex-Nazis) have moved there since the end of WW2 as the NASA rocket and military missile designs have all been done there.

    One of the couples in my folks bridge club (ORW) moved to Huntsville in the 60's for NASA work.

    Huntsville was OK, I worked on the Space Shuttle payloads for McDonnell Douglas (gives you an idea of how old I be). Quit when UW@USC (1984?) wasn't going to be on TV and headed back here. Last time ever for working on a government program thank god
