    This whole debate about socialism vs capitalism and who won is so FS. They both won- i.e., every western industrialized nation with a high GDP has a mixed economy. It's the least bad way of running things.

    Missed the point. Socialism has no economic model.

    I would grant you this Sledog if we're talking strictly about socialism, meaning "state ownership of the means of production" as the author states. But I think most of us lump in wealth transfer, and government planning and regulation of an economy as key components of "socialism".

    Something like Medicare is not socialism because you paid for in the form of payroll deductions. Of course it was later corrupted so that those that did not pay in were given benefits. Same for social security.

    Hell its not. Its government mandated single payer for old people. That people pay into doesn't make it non socialistic somehow. Furthermore most retirees will recite more in Medicare benefits than they ever paid in which is a transfer of wealth.
    I agree except for giving benefits to those who never paid.
