Geographically this is where being in southeast Alaska kicks us in the balls. The Pod starts off by showing us the need to expand the recruiting base and the logical choice is Texas, but then statistically shows how next to impossible it is for us to pull elite kids anywhere but the west coast.
I think there is enough talent on the West Coast for us to compete on the National Level if we take care of our shit, and that starts with throwing the purple fence up around the state (you can laugh and call that a doog statement, but it was mandatory under DJ and that was when we could walk into the state of Oregon and Northern California and take anyone we wanted, plus pull a couple of war daddies from Hawaii)
USC can't take them all, and if 20% of those are coming from outside the region all the better. Stanford's at 41% so ditto. UCLA can get them, but they will always be a BB school, so their ability to hire and retain a top level cfb is neutralized.
Bottom line: If we have the right man in charge (and Coach Pete is that man), UW is the 2nd best program on the west coast. 30 years ago, today and 30 years from now, top high school kids want two things: Win Games and Play in the NFL. There is no doubt Pete will do that.
Another season or two like last year, and the 3-4 difference makers we missed on last year (Fozzy/AVT/IPM/Marlon), get in the boat, and those 12-16 kids over a four year cycle(which is upwards of another class at 16) let you line up against the Bama's, Ohio State's, Clemson's, Oklahoma's of the world and not have 75% (or more) of the key plays go your way in order to win which is what we needed to happen versus Bama game in the Peach Bowl.

We've got a winner in Pete.
Yeah, sure, he's still figuring out his correct personnel. Has to let go of the strausser types.
But success will follow success.
Those guys who still see Oregon as a Nike destination school or Stanford as some "intellectual brutality" thing ... Let them.
Eventually guys like Smalls and the rest will seriously consider UW year in and out because of the sustained success and will identify with Washington since early high school.
We'll get our majority share of those guys plus cherry pick the national guys like Oregon used to pick National guys based on the Chip Kelly years.
That's really only a few years away.
So enjoy it while it builds is what I say. -

I had a lot of yard work planned for yesterday so I banged out the pod. Teq, it's 89ute, not ute89. Numbers on the end is just wrong.
Why listen someone blurted out? Many reasons but what's on my mind now is DATA, DATA, DATA and more DATA. Want more DATA. I knew CA, TX & FL produced the most recruits but the breakdown state by state is fascinating, I'm glad it got posted. @Dennis_DeYoung you posted, and said in the pod "We're going to have to get a site to host data". What the fuck? Post it in your recruiting bored. What am I not understanding?
The data on 4*s leaving a region is the kind of stuff I value in your podcast. For example, I remember the % of kids leaving the southeast is only 8%, other regions 20-30ish and the west coast being the highest at something like 34ish? This is fascinating shit! Then the breakdown of who in the Pac-12 gets 4*s from other regions. This information is gold. I'd like to see it posted. I don't want to wade through that fucking monster to retrieve that info, but I do want to stare at it and think about it. This is where my question comes from about needing a site for data. Whatever the fuck that is, get it. I wan't to see it.
Malloe. You know, until I started hanging out here, I never knew the motherfucker coached at Utah State. That should tell you something. He has no presence in Utah. NEVER have I heard a local Poly kid mention him. I've never heard Malloe mentioned anywhere. Local sports radio, newspaper, local news ... nothing.

Just for the hell of it, I searched "Malloe" on the Utah Rivals site, thinking for sure at least one kid over the years said something like "I really like Coach Malloe at Utah State" or something like that, but here's what I got:

So Malloe knew Jay Tufele since he was 13 years old and couldn't get a visit. Newsflash, every Poly has known every Poly since birth. Every other Poly coach out there knew Jay when he was a baby. This really isn't an exaggeration.

Joe Salave'a is now at Oregon, do any of you know if WSU still has this pipeline? Is Joe doing well recruiting Polys at Oregon? Did WSU ever pull in any meaningful recruits, or recruits who turned out to be anything? I don't know, but I don't think so, because I haven't heard anything further about this.
So, in a @Tequilla way, my poont is, forget the Poly thing. It will take a generation to establish. Better ROI establishing a pipeline into Texas.
Another case in point, I don't even think Ngata hangs out or pimps Oregon since he left. But I can tell you one thing, on just about any given day, you can find him at the Utah football complex.
I am looking forward to the upcoming Pac-12 podcast. I wan't minutiae, data. detail. This fucker better be 6 hours, or two pods, 3 hours each, north and south.

But your overall point, this idea that UW is going to go into Utah and be successful? Not going to happen. The only chance we have is with the random kid like Ty Jones that for whatever reason is stuck living in the greater SLC area (and in Jones' case Provo) and can't wait to find a way to get the hell out of there. -
Also with Ty Jones, hard to pick Utah with shit QBs and shit offense. There was a TE who left Salt Lake a couple of years ago to go to Stanford. He's there now and getting PT. Another case of a top notch offensive player staying the hell away from Utah. But interestingly, I think kids are liking what Troy Taylor is selling. We've pulled in a couple of nice offensive recruits since he's come aboard. As far as Polys to SC, I think its just SC being SC and nothing more. As far a Tufele, I was shocked we lost him and it was a hard kick in the nuts as far as recruiting profile, but we later learned Jay's dad got himself a nice little job with SC. I don't think they're building any kind of pipeline, but it's still concerning.
