Fuck Elliot Ness and every other government employee that we are supposed to consider heroes...
Guaranteed income, pensions and benefits for life, seemingly unlimited resources to accomplish their wondrous deeds - too bad Al Capone didn't cram his syphillus ridden tool deep into Ness's recepticle box...
Oh wait, the thread is about coach security - too bad, I'm not deleting the truth

weren't about 75% of you basement dwellers hoping Pool Boy hired Brian Kelly a few years ago like he was the next Nick Saban?
He had a lot of fans. His record was as good as anyones. Did great as he worked his way up and got to the BCS his third year. Sound familiar?
If we have learned anything its that great coaches are rare and there is no "formula" for predicting
I don't completely agree with that. I would say there is no formula for guaranteeing a great coach. There are formulas for identifying guys who have a decent chance.
And really, unless you're in a position to hire a guy with an NC away from the Miami Dolphins, that's all most schools can do. Get a guy who has a decent chance.
The reason the Gilby and Ty hires were such abominations was it was clear they didn't have a chance to be great. The reason the Sark hire sucked was that (much like the Lambo hire) he had a shot but was unlikely to be great
With Pete, there was at least a decent chance. So far it looks like we might have hit on that.
Rich Rod is in Dodd's top 5 coaches most likely to be fired. PM to Dennis Dodd:
Dick Rod is a good coach. He invented an offense that is basically the staple of college football today, won a major conference multiple times, won a few major bowl games, and won a division title at a school that doesn't even know it has a football program. He isn't a great coach, there are never more than four great coaches in college football at any one time.
Saying someone like Sark is a good coach who has never done anything is stupid. Rich Rod has a resume that dwarfs 90% of active coaches today in the NCAA. That is a good coach, period.
The list of head coaches with a major conference championship in the Pac-12 goes; Pete, Shaw, Rich Rod. That's it. You don't accidentally win those.

One natty in the last four years is below expectations.
