Naomi Oreskes, a historian of science at Harvard University, in 2004 found that 75 percent of published studies supported anthropogenic global warming. Since then, six other studies have been published with widespread media attention.
And yet, the chain of events Cook mentioned, where people hear of the scientific consensus and call their lawmakers, has not happened. In fact, consensus messaging over the past decade has not convinced any more or any fewer Americans to believe in global warming.
Cook thinks the failure is partly because the consensus studies were not publicized enough. Another reason, he believes, is that American minds have been poisoned by climate contrarians like Frank Luntz, a Republican strategist under President George W. Bush, who advised skeptics to create an illusion of scientific discord and challenge established climate scientists. Such messaging has made people think the scientific consensus is much lower than it is in reality, Cook said. He calls this phenomenon the "consensus gap." -

I can't believe I'm going to reply to a climate change thread, but here goes.
Scholars/Scientists have been the smartest beings to ever inhabit this planet. As far as we know they are the smartest beings in the universe.
A great example is scholars prior to the Greek Empire figured out the world was round and approximately 22,000 miles around at the circumference. It turns out it is closer to 25,000 miles, but they figured that out by placing sticks in the dirt apart from each other on a north/south axis and measuring shadows. That's fucking smart.
Fast forward to today scientists are infinitely more knowledgeable that these ancient civilizations. They have infinitely more resources as well. If 75% of the smartest beings on the planet come to the same conclusion based off of studies, experiments, and data that sure as fuck should hold more weight than some retard with no background in anything other than being a fuckwad who doesn't believe it.
Christopher Columbus thought the world was half the size scholars proclaimed, which of course it wasn't. Then he gets lost and finds the Caribbeans and thinks it's India because he is fucking stupid and America names a holiday after him. Stupid fuckers do stupid things and America is littered with them at all levels.
