Mondo Duplantis

19'-4" at the Texas Relays. This kid is a junior in high school. Amazing. The world record is 20'-2 1/2"

I had no idea the pole vault record was over 20 feet now.

Track and field used to be a big deal, not just an Olympic thing every 4 years

I was at a high school invitational track meet yesterday. Over 1500 athletes and several thousand spectators on a shitty day. (admittedly, the spectators were mostly parents). I also just watched Washington chase down the coogs in the mens 4x400 to ice the dual meet win at Husky Track. Whose House? chants and lots of Husky pride on display.

Track and Field is healthier than ever. As competition in it's purest form it can be compelling. No refs. No bullshit. Best man wins. Go to any high school or college meet and I guarantee you will see at least one instance of heroic effort that will surprise you.

Love how USATF boasts of participation with no mention of competition.
