The important connection is Seattle Rotary here. The guys dad is a coach. Seattle hoops scene is NOT protesting the couch sale of Romar

Hmmmm. Kid with no offers. And hasn't accepted the UW offer. Might be premature to conclude anything. Hope you're right though.NeGgaPlEaSe said:The important connection is Seattle Rotary here. The guys dad is a coach. Seattle hoops scene is NOT protesting the couch sale of Romar

I'm not saying we don't want him. I'm saying its way too early to conclude "Seattle hoops scene is NOT protesting the couch sale of Romar" based on an offer to a kid nobody else wants.WilburHooksHands said:

This kid is fucking awesome. He's better than Fuller by a wide margin imo. He'll be a stud in college, most underrated player in the country. He defends like a bitch, he's athletic and long as shit, good shot, great pull-up gayme, and gets to the rim whenever he wants. He took Cleveland to the T-Dome his sophomore year.

Would you change your mind if his father a Rotary coach said as much?
Summary, "we want our kids to get scholarships and a quality education and stay home..." -
I thought we didn't want Seattle players anyways???NeGgaPlEaSe said:dnc said:

Tape isn't bad, isn't eye opening, but I don't really expect the new staff to be pulling in jaw dropping prospects to start. I do like his length, which can lead to some versatility.

I actually like the tape ... good chance that he could be a rotation player for a P12 program.
I agree that he doesn't have eye popping athleticism ... but he definitely looks to be a guy that has a good idea of how to play the game and you can see that with a few of his pull up jumpers and the mid-range post up that he turned into a nice little jumper with a jab step.
There's a lot of good basketball players out there ... with the exception of the handful of guys that have won the genetic lottery it is way more important to have a team that is well coached with an identity than it is to just have a bunch of athletic guys and just expecting that something will happen. -
He's a 6"7 SG who's dad is like 6"10 hell he might be 6"9 by the time he graduates.
-
Hadn't looked at his tape and he probably sucks, but if he's a coach's son and he's not gifted enough that he has had to work hard to be halfway decent then he will be a better influence on the roster than 90% of what we currently have.
The team needs a culture change, and bringing in some guys to help that can't hurt. -
A lot of judgment about lack athleticism on this board? 6'7" SG who's not fully done growing. Sounds like a player to mebackthepack said:He's a 6"7 SG who's dad is like 6"10 hell he might be 6"9 by the time he graduates.

Dude was like 6"4 last year.NeGgaPlEaSe said:

Keep in my mind he's still growing and 6"7 by the time he's an upper classmen this is the type of dude who will be a stud. Think CJ Fair, Josh Hart etc.

The kid doesn't have enough flash according to this video to be a 1st round NBA talent.
Really though, the actual tape is just fine. The kid looks to have great body control and a more than adequate jumper for his age. He leans a bit but nowhere near Crisp terrible jumper. He looks to have decent handles for his size/age. His athleticism may not be off the charts based on a short video, but it also looks like he hasn't touched a weight in his life either.
Who is saying he isn't offered by anyone? I would have to doubt that. I'm sure this kid has a lot of low end d1 offers, but maybe hasn't had an elite tier come in yet. One good spring summer AAU circuit and UW's offer will be history -
If Bill Elleby is one of his dads, he isn't 6'10. His dad is tall, but not even close to 6'10. Bill Elleby played for Garfield, was all state 2 guard, played at Cal at a time when UW routinely let local talent go elsewhere.backthepack said:He's a 6"7 SG who's dad is like 6"10 hell he might be 6"9 by the time he graduates.

He's the leading scorer and rebounder on EYBL rotary team with Kevin Porter and Fuller.
-
If Hop ends up taking this kid and Pryor from West Seattle, I'm good with that. Get in good with the local AAU and high schools and get a few guys you can coach up.
-
True. But the 80's wasn't exactly hoops nirvana in WA. The true rise of legitimate local talent in volume started in the mid 90's.huskyhooligan said:

Peter Dukes (Stanford), Bill Elleby (Cal), Donny Marshall (Connecticut), Doug Christie (Pepperdine), Will Brantley (Oregon State), Ryan Drew (Cal): All started at programs better than UW. Go a little later before the mid 90's you have guys like Michael Dickerson (Arizona), omm'A Givens (UCLA). UW has missed on a lot of local talent. There is a reason that the there has been such an emphasis with Bender, Romar, and now Hopkins to keep kids home. Ultimately the UW will still lose talent because you just can't sign everyone. 2005 was a great example when you had Martell Webster, Marcus Williams, Micah Downs, Jon Brockman, Artem Wallace, Terrence Williams, and Garrison Carr. Granted Carr was a small D1 guy who had a great career at American, but when you can basically flip a coin on Martell, Marcus, Terrence and Micah. Still wish they had gotten Marcus instead of focusing on Martell. Marcus on that 06 team would have been excellent.Saracen said:
