We’ll assume the Huskies, like the Hotline, researched the history of the external hire/career assistant model in the Pac-12 — and that they determined the data wasn’t applicable.
Obviously, UW athletic director Jen Cohen, on the job for less than one year, spotted something she liked in Hopkins’ background.
He’s a California guy (Mater Dei), has recruiting connections across the country and learned from a Hall of Famer.
But because his only coaching experience is two decades as an assistant at a program 3,000 miles away — with little in common with Washington, by the way — it seems like wait-and-see is the wise response to the hire.
It doesn’t mean Hopkins is doomed to fail, not at all.
But it means UW fans should steel themselves for a few hiccups as Hopkins navigates his learning curve … and that he would be the first of this model to succeed in the conference in a not-insignificant period of time.

That is the laziest article I've seen in some time.

So the Dawgs shouldn't expect to win 3 conference games next Season??? -
This is fantastic news.

Jon Wilner liked the fucking Pac 12 Network originally too.
Fuck that guy.
Hi, Jon!

Things are looking up

ill bet sven's (rip) twenty bucks that he can deep throat that entire cigar.

I remember Emmert lashing out at his critics around the Sark hire by saying that he too was once a first-time president and that you "got to learn somewhere". Of course he missed the point entirely as he cut his teeth at academic creampuff LSU before going to UW.
Edit: people forget Nick Saban mostly sucked at Michigan State. People forget that. -
People also forget that Michigan State wasn't Saban's first rodeo. People also forget that.Gladstone said:I remember Emmert lashing out at his critics around the Sark hire by saying that he too was once a first-time president and that you "got to learn somewhere". 1 year at Toledo =! cutting teeth, MSU was part of that as well duh
-
Well you've got one coach from another sport who kind of maybe learned on the job, guess you've proven your point. We're fucked.Gladstone said:1 year at Toledo =! cutting teeth, MSU was part of that as well duh

If I have to argue hiring proven winners vs taking a chance on random assistant then I've already committed seppuku and died. RIP.
-
I'll admit I had a "What the fuck" moment when hearing news of his hiring but after a little research it sounds like he was the life blood of a national power program.
-
I 100% agree that's exactly what they did, and if you're against this move that's the argument you have. It has shit to do with a learning curve or learning on the job or cutting teeth. It's that he's unproven and we don't know what he is.Gladstone said:If I have to argue hiring proven winners vs taking a chance on random assistant then I've already committed seppuku and died. RIP.
On that I completely agree. He hasn't proven he can do it, and that's extremely risky. -
Holds that cigar like a Mandingo plantation penis - bet he would love the bus station bathroom in Lagos, Nigeria
-
Suddenly, I am all in for the Coach Hop era.
-
I'm not dooging over this hire by any means but using a blanket statement about all assistants is FS. They have to come from somewhere, obviously. And there are plenty of coaches I would much rather have gone after. But as usual, Wilner takes a slam dunk argument and gets rejected by the rim

Wilner hates life.
And should not be an AP voter. -
