Well, he's right that they worked for less

I really dislike this culture we have of playing gotcha with good, smart people who might have misspoke
-
and yes sometimes conservatives do it too, like the other day with Loretta Lynch
-
Still waiting for the Natural News take on this

I looked up the definition of immigrant and didn't see anything that made Carson's comment incorrect. What exactly is wrong with what he said?
-
In this thread white people telling a Black man how he should think about slavery
Great plantation mentality as always -

Not exactly. As I recall, only Leonardo DeCaprio made it to the top deck of the steam liner to be used as a sexual tool by the wealthy class. The poor Irish were stuck in the bilge, locked in at the first sign of trouble and drowned when Titanic sank

It comes with the territory of having a high profile, public facing job. What is the media supposed to do if Carson lobs them a softball like this? He said something stupid and people like to point and laugh.DerekJohnson said:I really dislike this culture we have of playing gotcha with good, smart people who might have misspoke
I agree that the false outrage gets ridiculous. People are getting all worked up because they think that Carson truly doesn't understand the difference between slaves and immigrants. -

They're all immigrants. It's possible to involuntarily immigrate to another country. I'll admit that people usually don't refer to slaves as immigrants, so that's probably why people are reacting to what he said. But he's right, so if anything we should be learning from him.AZDuck said:Fenderbender123 said:I looked up the definition of immigrant and didn't see anything that made Carson's comment incorrect. Carson is using "immigrant" correctly. Not sure what the problem is.

perhaps it wasn't as bad as it originally looked.

Yup, or as someone else once said...dhdawg said:https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2017/03/06/slaves-as-immigrants-from-ben-carson-and-the-academy/?utm_term=.8dd2c9dc0f21

"Certainly, it wasn't easy for those of African heritage who had not come here voluntarily and yet in their own way were immigrants themselves. There was discrimination and hardship and poverty. But, like you, they no doubt found inspiration in all those who had come before them. And they were able to muster faith that, here in America, they might build a better life and give their children something more."
Its nice though to see the outrage of the day from the morons like HondoFS... -
Don't you think that's a little different though? For someone who has consistently denied being a Muslim it was a very Muslim thing to say. There wasn't to my knowledge any big movement to argue Ben Carson thinks slaves are immigrants prior to this statement. That was also a tough thing to be a slip of the tongue, fifty is much easier to say than fifty-seven.2001400ex said:

And no, I don't think Obama is a Muslim (or born in Kenya) (or a Christian, but that's another debate). Combine 57 states with "My Muslim faith" and there were some extremely convenient coincidences for those who want to argue he is a Muslim though. -
Obama is much closer to Christianity than Trump is.dnc said:

But the slip was he meant to say 47 states, not 57. Not that big of a deal.dnc said:

Right. The Ben Carson thing wasn't a slip of the tongue. It was a prescribed thought out comment. Both these Obama comments were during live, unscripted interviews. Tell me you can see the difference.dnc said:
