Local Government playing tricks on taxpayers AGAIN

seattletimes.com/seattle-news/transportation/sound-transit-uses-inflated-car-values-to-collect-higher-tab-fees/?roi=echo3-42217316987-40789254-17a5ea650fa3c47810030acd9084458e
The worst part is that they aren't even playing tricks on taxpayers to repair the horrible potholes and decrepit streets of Seattle, which has probably caused untold damage to residents' cars, particularly tire replacement (it has for our family).

Welcome to every other state and Washington pre 1998 when they passed the $30 basic fee. Your friend must drive a 2 or 3 ton truck based on the taxes below. Sucks but we have been lucky they haven't increased the fees in 18 years. The odd thing is, Washington is the must regressive state in terms of tax structure bring only sales tax and the value of he vehicle doesn't matter with registration.DerekJohnson said:A friend of mine just got his car tab bill.. $600 for his truck
Annual motor vehicle weight fees for passenger vehicles, motorcycles, and other types of vehicles up to 14,000 pounds that pay the state’s $30 basic registration fee will increase. The amount of the increase will range from $15 to $35 depending on the weight of the vehicle. For example, the motor vehicle weight fee for a passenger vehicle weighing 4,000 pounds or less will increase by $15, from $10 to $25.
Gross weight license fees for trucks, commercial vehicles, and other types of vehicles up to 10,000 pounds that are not subject to the state’s $30 basic registration fee also will increase. The amount of this increase also will range from $15 to $35. A new freight project fee will be collected on vehicles subject to the gross weight license fee with a gross weight of more than 10,000 pounds. This fee will be 15 percent of the gross weight license fee due at the time of annual registration.

Because Seattle with its narrow ass wet roads, steep hills, and dark winter days is perfectly suited for bike commuting. Fuck that noise!!GrundleStiltzkin said:We? should be riding bikes anyway.

Ever heard of a hoverboard or an electric unicycle? No cooler way to travel around downtown Seattle.YellowSnow said:

the formula is just a standardized way to collect tax money, not an accurate representation of a car’s worth.
“It’s not related to fair market value,” Benfield said. “It was designed to be an easy way to collect what’s essentially a property tax on a vehicle. They wanted to make sure that people who had similar cars paid the same tax.” -
Right, they are doing it by vehicle weight. Which is actually more fair in some ways. A 1 ton dually does more damage to a road than a Prius.BennyBeaver said:the formula is just a standardized way to collect tax money, not an accurate representation of a car’s worth.

If the SDOT actually took care of the multiplying potholes, road-gouges, generally falling apart roads, people wouldn't be as irritated about this.
Like a lot of Seattle government, they provide low performance at a high cost.
