It will be very interesting to see what Pete does. Right now we have one dynamic recruiter on staff in Jimmy "god" Lake, who there is a better than 50% chance won't be on staff next year.
Does Pete look for a alpha recruiter who he thinks he can mold/turn into a better wr or other position coach down the road, or does he go for the best coach he can find, with the feeling that the on field results will speak for themselves in recruits eyes?
From a recruiting standpoint, as the TSIO guys said, I see a lot of "par" coaches on this staff, one ace, and then Strausser and Smith.
You need more than one guy who connects with the kids in a way that they are excited and can't wait to get here, and besides Lake, to rip off the phrase, the rest of the coaches are "old, fat and white".
PS: Tequilla's breakdown of the staff and specifically how important Socha is, can't be understated. Tim Socha is that valuable to this program
ESPN had a story about Ohio State, and Urban Meyer essentially said his s/c coach holds the keys to the car, as he turns the kids over to him in January, and outside the 20 spring practices they get, their his until he gets them back in August for fall camp.

John Ross couldn't run a route before this year. On offense was a two trick pony - fly route, or bubble screen. He spends a year with Hamdan and suddenly he can run the whole route tree.TurdBuffer said:CokeGreaterThanPepsi said:My only hard complaint about losing Hamdan is that we still have Smith. From that standpoint it's bullshit. Also, Pete isn't immune from making shitty hires, so it's not like we are guaranteed to upgrade or even have the same caliber of WR coach as Hamdan.
Hopefully he makes a good hire, and not Pease 2.0.
Was Hamdan really that good? Or was Pease just really that bad? Pettis is a fucking freak in the air and great at returning punts. I'm not sure either can be coached. And Ross was fucking Ross and as we witnessed, speed kills. We had a lot of short, under-thrown balls by our QB that required improvisation and adjustments that struck me as outside the routes in the playbook this year. So, while Hamdan appeared to be much improved over Pease, how do we know how much was him versus his players? Given only 1 year, I'm not convinced Hamdan was the major factor in the improved WR play, so I'm optimistic.RoadDawg55 said:The WR's were much improved. The real area he will be missed is recruiting.
Pettis wasn't a freak in the air as a sophomore, he was mostly shit. Suddenly as a junior he's a badass.
Then you add in solid contributions from McLatcher and Aaron Fucking Fuller, and even decent moments from Baccelia, and it's hard to deny Hamdan was a miracle worker.
WDWHA if you want too, just be honest that you're dooging.
He'll be missed. -
All you need to look at is the difference in blocking last year.TurdBuffer said:CokeGreaterThanPepsi said:My only hard complaint about losing Hamdan is that we still have Smith. "He will be missed."
Hopefully and quite possibly not, and definitely not for certain. WR is not a rocket science coaching position. Hamdan was good and a huge improvement over Pease. But LIPO. If Pete could get Hamdan, I'm confident he can find a suitable replacement.
As UW ascends, we're going to see good coaches go elsewhere every year. We need to get used to this and not shit our britches every time this happens. -
The odds are strongly in favor of a dropoff. Petersen "got" Pease, too. Chances are the next hire will be somewhere in between.TurdBuffer said:"He will be missed."

Pete needs to learn this isn't the WAC anymore.dnc said:
