I'm trying to decide what was most notable about Wilcox.RoadDawg55 said:It's kind of funny that a year ago, Wilcox was run out of USC. If Sark wasn't fired, Wilcox would have been fired to save his job. Their fans hated him.
He goes to Wisconsin, gets a loaded defense that was already good. Their old DC became one of the highest paid coordinators at LSU. They also play in the Big 10 which is the most offensively inept league. Wilcox spends one year there and gets a head coaching job.
1. Being overjoyed and fist pumping everyone because his team won nine games and that it only took UW a mere five seasons to reach that mark. Still makes me laugh.
2. Getting ass raped by every team with a pulse that we played.
3. USC fans screaming for his head and calling him the worst DC in their history.
4. The seductive trance. -
He was probably well aware of what an accomplishment it was to win 9!!!!, given that the team was run by a philandering Patron-swilling con artist.Gladstone said:RoadDawg55 said:It's kind of funny that a year ago, Wilcox was run out of USC. We have had this argument here before, but the Tennessee defenses were not very good. They did fall off a cliff once he left.BearsWiin said:
Played a role, sure. But he's done well wherever he's not been working for a philandering Patron-swilling con artist. That includes Cal, BSU, UT, and Wiscy.RoadDawg55 said:
I get that he has Cal connections from coaching there, but it's cute that you don't think it played a large role.BearsWiin said:
It's cute that you think he got the HC job based on one year at Wiscy.RoadDawg55 said:It's kind of funny that a year ago, Wilcox was run out of USC. If Sark wasn't fired, Wilcox would have been fired to save his job. Their fans hated him.

I think he's a pretty good, but not great DC. Baldwin as the OC is a good hire. It beats having Dykes but you seem to be getting out in front of your skis a little bit. -

Since 2000 Cal has had a 5 or 6 win season 3 times out of the 17 years.backthepack said:
Cal is always around 5-6 wins every fucking yearjamtoft said:
Hahaha you went to one playoff. Much more a fluke than something that will happen all the time. I don't think you know what perennial means.backthepack said:
Yup they are going to decommit from a playoff team to go to a perennial 5 win team!jamtoft said:
Well we already locked in CB Elijah Hicks who we stole from ND. Hardimon and Godfrey won't feel like losses when they are replaced with McKinney, Taylor, and Molden.TurdBuffer said:Cal loses its third commit of the weekend: DB Tyriq Hardimon reopens recruitment Cal loses both of its defensive back prospects.

Since 2000 Cal has had 10 winning seasons while Washington has also had 10. Again maybe you don't understand the word perennial. -
I've said it before, but I was more keen on him before he went off and worked for Sark. Yeah, he learned how do do things right from Tedford and Peterman, but hopefully he learned how not to do things when he worked for DudeBrah.RoadDawg55 said:

I was talking at the gym this morning with a woman whose nephew works in the Cal Athletic Department about how long it's been since I had hope for Cal football. I narrowed it down to the evening of Sept. 26 2009, a few hours after the 42-3 plunger-raping Cal took at Autzen on national TV. I'd gone up there with my BIL and stayed with my dad in Portland, and we drove down there that morning to watch a game between two ranked teams (I think Cal was #10, 3-0 after beating three nobodies). Had a good time tailgating and checking out the stadium. Then the game started, and the shock of watching my team get absolutely clobbered. Only later that evening did the anger and disappointment set in, and I realized that there was no way that Tedford would compete for the conference title as long as a guy like Chip was there to challenge USC. We were immediate also-rans after several years of being seen as the team that might knock off the Trojans when Carroll came down to earth. Everything after that was just LIPOing.
Dykes was a disaster from the start. No need to get into that, just that I never felt hopeful with the guy, and that wait-and-see attitude changed pretty quickly to get-this-guy-the-fuck-outtahere when he continued to derstroy the team in 2013. Even as recently as ten days ago I was resigned to another year of limbo, mediocre football while waiting for the administration to find its balls and do something. Then they did. They got a promising young coach (not a home run can't-miss hire, but other than Saban, Meyer, and Peterman, maybe Dabo, who the hell is) and look to be in the process of assembling a dynamic coaching staff. On paper, this looks very hopeful, and hope is what I've been missing since September 26, 2009. So maybe I'm grasping at straws here, but even that faint glimmer of hope is like a lush oasis in the fucking desert of despair that I've been wandering in for the last seven years.
So forgive me if I'm a bit out in front of my skis. I haven't seen fresh powder like this in a long time, and, at least for the moment, it feels glorious.
tl;dr fuck off
