"Mathis, a senior, did not make the trip to Atlanta with the Huskies. He is back home in Southern California recovering from November surgery on both of his feet and preparing for the NFL draft."

His season was ended.
He wouldn't be playing in the Peach Bowl.
His goal is to play in the NFL.
Leaving the team to focus on training is a better way to achieve his goal than following the team around to watch them practice. -

Foot surgery is often used as a cover for a trip to rehab for a nasty coke addiction
I'm not saying that is the case here though. That would be irresponsible. -
Traveling with the team is nice and all, but it's really not a necessity. Him being on the sidelines isn't going to have an impact on how well we play. The guy has a future in the NFL, and there are potentially millions of dollars riding on how well he performs at the combine. Him leaving the team to train for it is absolutely understandable.MelloDawg said:
