Sun Bowel is apparently not important...

Weird precedent...understand it to some degree but wouldn't it be better just to claim a minor injury or something rather than telling your teammates peace and go have fun in that hell-hole while I sign with an agent and start driving a Maserati...

Pretty sure Leonard Fournette did the same thing last week, so not setting precedent.

I don't blame them, but if it becomes common, non-new years bowl games will eventually die out. Might be a good thing actually.

Yeah, but Fournette has been walking wounded most of the year. I'm pretty sure he said something to the effect of his ankle wasn't right and he needed to rest it.

Too much ESPN/TV money in the crappy bowels right now...its the only thing keeping them afloat with their trouble in getting sponsors and selling tickets, but then again if their subscriptions keep dropping and that gets cut back it may finally cut the number of bad bowls out there.

Claim an injury when your goal is maximizing investment by an NFL team? Maybe rethink that.

If it is a minor injury like an ankle or something like that it is one thing ...

I understand the idea to sit the game out ...

That being said, I would expect player personnel people and coaches to strongly discuss what their stance is on this trend with players as it pertains to their evaluation. If you take Pete's expectation of everybody competing McCaffrey's actions come across as being contrary to that ... I could see this being something that could knock a player down on some draft boards.

If you rate a player lower for skipping the Sun Bowl, you should be running the Browns.

    It is bullshit.

And it will become more and more common.

Especially with positions where you get hit like a running back

Wait, I thought he was the ultimate team player. Selfless. Lunch pail.

I don't understand the world anymore.

He's giving a bad name to white football players.
How can they win without a coach on the field??

It's almost like these dudes aren't aware they can purchase insurance in college in case of injury.

He should have pulled a Marcus Peters and got kicked off the team. No backlash there on questioning his heart

Fuck Chris McCaffrey and fuck white people. What a POS.

So if a millionaire coach bails out on his team before their bowl game to take a job for more millions that's super awesome, but if one of his slaves tries to make a little extra money he is a POS?

    Interesting logic.

and that's exactly the bigger story here...the 4 team playoff system has completely sabotaged the bowl system and this is going to be the norm for most of the mid/lesser tier bowls going forward.

NCAA and each school make huge coin off guys like McCaffrey in bowls and when the marquee player decides to chase his own check, then the attendance/viewership declines.

The neverending expansion of the bowl system sabotaged the bowl system.

Knowing you need four teams with losing records before the season starts just to fill the pool is participation trophy type shit.

The powers that be didn't want the playoff to denigrate the regular season and it hasn't with only four teams. It has however just made bowl games pointless and stupid. If they expand the playoffs to eight teams it will make both the regular season and all exhibitions pointless and stupid, just like college basketball.

As an Oregon fan I could care less we didn't make a bowl game. I was fucking pissed that we weren't ever in the conversation for the playoffs this year. What does playing NIU in El Paso or San Diego or wherever in late December do to change that?

He's a white RB. He needs to be given more time for prepping and taking the NFL tests. Some of you obviously haven't gotten that ADHD diagnosis for school yet.

It's a shitty thing to do to your teammates. Those schlubs you play with have been busting their asses for you and will never set foot on an NFL field. As far as millionaire coaches? Well, they built the program that coached you and your team into what you have become. As far as huge coin being made off the backs off players? That huge coin goes right back into the program. Most athletic departments are lucky to break even.

    McCaffrey is a cunt.

Can't say I blame McCaffrey. Caring about the Sun Bowl is the signature of a worthless program, with worthless fans.

So McCaffrey should have to pay a meaningless scrimmage to fund a water polo scholarship?

Star players generate so much money. Imagine Slingblade's bank account if Mariota had bailed for the draft after beating Texas in the gas station bowl? The blowout loss to tOSU doesn't happen and sling doesn't get that five year extension.

Darron Thomas can't even make it in the Arena League, but Chip Kelly is waddling around the Castro district with a brief case full of Benjis hangout out of his fly because of him.

The NFL can release almost any player without paying them anything. Coaching contracts are mostly guaranteed. Good for star players bailing on shit bowls.

He should play for his teammates, some of which will be the last time they ever strap on a helmet. McCaffrey's body isn't any more important than the dude blocking for him who wants to golf when he's 58 years old. It's a selfish bitch move.
