usc's coach offers some subtle "coach speak" analysis.

Make no mistake, Helton is talking about Jake. Considering alabama does not let their QB do much other than run the football, hand off the football, mostly throw short passes, and basically just refrain from anything risky, I think this is Helton's way of saying that Jake better not "brownsocks" this game. Helton mentioned earlier in this story how usc was able to disrupt Jake's timing and move him off of his spot. As we've discussed recently on this bored, throwing Jake off of his planned rhythm results in him caving. He and his offensive coordinator haven't yet figured out how to successfully move to an effective Plan B when their primary strategy is taken away. They crumble.

Just don't tip Bama off to the Wild Swede formation.

You're reading way too much into this. He's not saying anything at all. That's what coaches do.

I am still waiting for the Triple Lindy. I want Lindquist to throw that pass...not Pettis.PurpleThrobber said:Just don't tip Bama off to the Wild Swede formation.

Really? Of all the positions and players he could identify, and all of the issues that could impact the game (running the ball, defense, penalties, field position, etc.), he just happened to pick "which quarterback makes mistakes" as the one that will decide the game. And looking at these two teams, you have 1 QB that doesn't do a whole lot, and another that has been terribly erratic over the last 4 weeks. Also, Helton identified disrupting Jake as the reason usc won.dnc said:You're reading way too much into this. He's not saying anything at all. That's what coaches do.
A coincidence? Right. -

Big if true! -
Helton used a lotta words to say that if Babushka had simply continued to pound the rock to the left, UW would have been fine.

Way to read way into a basic coach speak statement

Meh. This is just classic confirmation bias. It's telling because Passion wantw it to be telling. But these exact comments are made by opposing coaches every single time they don't want to say anything. Sometimes they're telling, sometimes they're not. Time will tell.CuntWaffle said:Way to read way into a basic coach speak statement

Here's an idea - shut the fuck up about the playoffs and just beat colorado. How can you expect your players to "focus on the next game" if you're talking about this shit. -

If you want to make accusations out here, take responsibility for them. Sign your real name to them. If not, that's what gets deleted. Always have, always will. You don't get to trash people out here anonymously. Use your real name or don't do it -

Jake will be fine... He thrives on being pressured and will stand in there until the last millisecond to deliver the ball.

December 31, 2016. If Jake plays well (or just doesn't fuck up too bad) we can win. If he brownsocks it (as against usc or colorado), we get pummeled.RaceBannon said:I agree with Passion

So the QB play will be a big factor in the game?
You must have been studying the nuances of the game of football for decades, Passion.
Jesus. -
First off, the QB doesn't always play a huge factor in games. Often they just manage the game without putting up gaudy stats or committing backbreaking turnovers. Handing the ball off, throwing the ball away when nothing is open, punting the ball to preserve field position, and letting your defense do their thing is frequently a winning strategy.dflea said:So the QB play will be a big factor in the game?

This is how bama manages their young QB. In contrast, UW asks Jake to do much more. His season has been one of high rewards (throwing tons of TDs and winning 12 games) and high risks (his performances vs. usc and colorado). So, the likelihood of Jake making a mistake is much higher than bama's QB because of UW's system.
This is why Helton's comments were interesting. He didn't say the game would come down to which team would establish the run, which team would play better defense, or any number of other important factors. Right after commenting how usc frustrated Jake, he said the game would be decided by which QB made the fewest mistakes.
One more thing, the first asshole on any thread is often funny, even if it comes at your expense. Being the fifth just makes you look unoriginal and insecure. -
I really don't get you. 80% of the time you're perfectly reasonable and provide great insight. Then you just lose your shit and go full Simple Jack retard for the other 20% and don't make any sense whatsoever. Helton doesn't give a fuck about this game, and his quote is a textbook example of bland coach speak. I have no idea how anyone could read it and even give it a second thought.Passion said:
