I read it. I laughed. Bravo.

That was a good read. You are pretty creative for an octogenarian.

Has the crack team of experts at Hardcore Husky verified the authenticity of this letter? I'm concerned it might be a fake.
The old timey prose seems to be consistent with the writing style of the middle 1800's. But, young Private Browning's comment about Col. Smith's "unit" having lost thousands of men in its last battle caught my eye. You see, typical command for a Civil War era Colonel would have been a regiment of 1,000 men give or take; and even allowing for the crude infantry tactics of the age and ensuing gruesome casualty numbers, it is unlikely that a unit of 1,000 soldiers could have lost "thousands" in one battle alone.
I think if you took this artifact to the guys on Pawn Stars, there's an 81% chance they are going to tell you it's phony. -

To get the full effect of Jake's letter, have this playing in the background when you read:

Well done Mr. Bannon. -
The Ken Burns music really does enhance the melancholy of Race's letter. Made me feel like Jake was going to get "dead arm" that turns bad with gangrene, requiring an amputation.Doog_de_Jour said:To get the full effect of Jake's letter, have this playing in the background when you read:

Too much war imaginary.

I just re-read it to that music and it is actually an enhanced experience.

That music in my head gave it that rhythm.DerekJohnson said:I just re-read it to that music and it is actually an enhanced experience.

Just wait until David McCullough takes over play-by-play duties from Bob Rondeau and Shelby Foote* is doing the analysis.DerekJohnson said:I just re-read it to that music and it is actually an enhanced experience.
*Yes, I know that guy is dead, but could probably do as good of job as Damon Huard. -
I'm sure Shelby Foote could have given Damon a run for his money in yelling "YAHOO!" while Bob was describing a big play.Doog_de_Jour said:

I've never heard a single word from Damon during a game but he sounds awful.DerekJohnson said:

Maybe if First Faggot Jacob Browning hadn't weakly floated the arms and provisions to right flank then the ignominious route by the South could have been avoided...
-
All that being said, Jake Browning sucks.

@YellowSnow units in wartime often suffered more than 100% casualties, as replacements are rushed into the line.
