Thanks for sharing this article Derek.

    That was outstanding.
  • Great article there Derek and the James era is what made growing up so fun. It was a tragedy what happened in August of 1993!

There will never be another Don James in this program. Have a great coach who was well respected by everyone, well organized and was a great person as well. Those guys are hard to find.

Replied coach James: "How can you be racist if you're defending dozens of black players?"

And that is the bottom line

Great read, Larry Nelson's tailgate show was the best, Bill Schwarz did a lot of the voices with Larry, Cashman didn't come close when he tried to do it. Why is it that only whites can be racist?

I remember that "you left your engine running" on the PA clearly. I actually think it was at the Michigan game that went down to the wire.

Schwarz's impressions of Mayor Norm Rice and Chuck Knox were priceless.

I always believed that along with everything else we saw on football Saturdays, there was truth in the man and that ripped through Husky Football in everyway possible for as long as the Dawgfather was in control.

Although I haven't seen it, I've heard that The Seattle Times ed page has taken a passing cheap shot at Don James now that he's gone. If true, that would be their way....... not a lot of truth there peeking through the Time's hatred for Husky Football.

You can be thus charged with racism if the your defense of black players comes at the expense of their black coach, but those making such a charge must be racist themselves. Just one of innumerable reasons why some of us believe racism has no purpose nor value.
