BONUS TSIOPODCAST Episode #15: Arizona Review (Not for the faint of heart)

Thanks guys. This is top shelf stuff. Analysis of "situational awareness" w/ Smith and Peterson really on point. The series w/ Browning's interception last week was EXACTLY the play call sequence against ASU last year except we took the sack instead of the int. ASU had just scored to pull within 7. we moved ball to twenty five with approx. 2 minutes in the third. First down run was for 4/5. Second down was inc. pass to the back of the endzone. Said at time to take a knee and kick the fg to go up by 10 (which stems the tide and imo we go on and win the game as your up two scores) before you do something like call a pass play and take a sack which is what Jake did for 10 yards and we proceed to miss the field goal. ASU goes down the field to tie it and the rest is history.

So if it's an issue with Smith, Pete can make the change if necessary and move on. My concern is it's in Pete's DNA and since his only other head coaching exp. is at Boise State where he essentially played 9 games like our preseason every year, the value of "points" never really came into play.

In the NFL coaches who have to choose between taking 3 points and sacrificing family members become grown men orphans very quickly. In college it's just the opposite because of the advent of the spread and arena football philosophy fg's won't win the game when the game will be in the 40's.

What's most troubling, is based on last season and what we think there is on defense this year, 3 points are okay. They will keep you in the game, but if the coaches aren't aware (or don't care) of the game situation, we are going to look back at 1-2 games this year where there is a loss instead of a win.
